My wife had cause to borrow the GC on Friday...
At the time, I did wonder to myself whether this could occur without her kerbing one of the alloys.
And the answer is...no...
It's pretty minor but it's still there...spotted it this morning and asked..."oh er yes, probably, I had to squeeze past a taxi in Hans Place and it was quite tight - was it one of the back wheels?"...
Sigh...
My wife's Fiat has immaculate bodywork without a scratch to be seen. All four alloys are however comprehensively kerbed. It seems to be her weakness...

Aren't your wheels diamond cut? If so that's a pain in the backside to repair. I've seen a few cars with rim protectors recently in bright colours. Could work on a 500, not on the GC.

That's annoying. My Mrs did the same to the Subaru.

That is annoying. The Boxster wheels are all perfect, hope that isn't tempting fate...... I'm the culprit, I caught my nearside rear wheel on a kerb in a Watford multi-storey, proper job as well..... . It's the first time I can remember keeping a wheel which doesn't make me feel better. I've been since and adjusted the mirrors down to see the rear wheels and it wasn't possible to make the chicane without backing up a bit and adjusting the line.

I've managed to damage one XFR alloy very slightly. But I've got to say I'm a fan of rim protection ribs on low profile tyres - they've saved me a couple of times. I'd always buy tyres with rim protection built in.

That's annoying. My Mrs did the same to the Subaru. As did mine; half a circle (NOT circumference!) of the wheel, if not more, taking up about 4 inches - roughly a quarter - of the radius. I was raging when I spotted it, especially as she merely shrugged it off as if it was nothing. She didn't shrug quite so easily when I gave her the bill mind you . . .

I have oft used the one in Alicante airport and notice it doesn't have that STUPID upstand on the ramps. Why the f... we have them in the UK is beyond me. W2.0 Kerbed hers so badly earlier this year she took the tyre out.

I don't like them in general, but the one in Watford is the worst I've even been in. The ramps aren't great, but it was a kerb chicane near the exit that got me. Surround view will be on my next car!

We've got one in Poole that is so tight a local body shop have put up adverts offering to help with your parking dings. One of the main ones in Horsham is similarly tight. The spaces are narrow enough that I've had to let the wife and kids get out before I park so as to have enough room to open my drivers door. Who designs these things?!

I aim for the small open carpark in the middle of the roundabout first; that also has a very tight and narrow entry and I don't thinkl I've got the V70 round in one go; the Ka and Fiesta are no problem, the C-Max required a bit of care. Apart from that there seems to be just one giant multi-storey that goes on for ever but fortunately I have only had to use it once, and it was a nightmare trying to find my way back to the M25 afterwards, even following satnav directions. Interesting place to shop, Watford......

A lot of these multistorey carparks were built when cars were a lot smaller and the recommended size of a parking bay (2.4m wide x 4.8m long) has not really been increased to take account of the new breed of porky cars and drivers.
I love the red multistorey car park at the Metro Centre in Gateshead; wide spaces with a 300mm wide painted section either side of each bay to make parking easy.
My old 320d Touring on 17" wheels seemed to attract the kerbs whilst, touch wood, the more expensive 18" wheels on my current 320ds have escaped scratch free.
Kiss of death that...

It used to have 'comfort parking' on the far side of the carpark with extra wide spaces but then reconfigured the lot to have gaps between all the spaces.

If you are quick and get some clear lacquer on it, it might remain OK - the biggest problem is when the surrounding lacquer starts to lift.

Good advice on the lacquer! The side walls of the XC70 tyres are like those of a tractor and have saved me from damage plenty of times. I cleaned them yesterday and they aren't kerbed at all but they are stone chipped. I don't know if this is because I drive it across rough ground or not but I've never known a car like it for stone chipped wheels.

I missed that post. Yes. We went up to Suffolk for the weekend so she was on her way to the City to pick me up from work en route.

Mrs R kerbed the rear nearside wheel on the Captur last week. On a high kerb, so the damage goes halfway up it. It's thankfully light but beyond polishing out. That's the 2nd kerbed alloy it now has. I fear forcmy wheels when she takes the V60 but at least the Eagle F1s have a huge rim protection ridge.

Yes, or as part of any two part paint touch up stick set.
It will never be perfect but it should stop it spreading.

Multi-storey car parks are a nightmare. Sharp corners, narrow lanes, and vicious high kerbs - they could save us all a lot of pain by sloping the kerbs more.
Mrs ALF quite regularly goes up or down kerbs in the C Max so hard I'm amazed it does not break the alloy, but they are barely marked thanks to the high profile tyres. I tend not to worry too much about the odd little mark on my alloys but that's generally on a car with rapidly advancing mileage - on a new car all marks are a PITA so I feel your pain!
