Have a Ram 1500 for the weekend to drive the family to the airport. I needed something that would carry 5 people, 2 dogs and 8 suitcases so ended up getting a pickup.
Now it’s not the largest of pickups there are over here but it’s big. I drove behind an X5 like mine yesterday and it looked like a compact car in comparison. The engine is a 5.7 L Hemi so there’s plenty of power and torque. It’s sounds decent too as you’d expect a V8 to sound. The sound console and connection works but is less intuitive than CarPlay. It also feels cheap inside. Considering you’d pay $50,000 for a new one, it doesn’t feel like a cabin that would cost that much, but then again, it’s a pickup.
It’s functional and will do the job. I’ve a 200 mile drive to the airport tomorrow and am returning tomorrow evening too, so will have a better idea of what it’s like then.
The worst part of it is that my family is traveling back to Ireland. I’ll be following them later in the year, but am not looking forward to the interim weeks. I’ve a lot of stuff to sell and move on in that time and I’ll be using the pickup to run to the dump on Monday. Will post some pictures then.

You'll be back with them soon, hope this is where time does indeed fly.

I’m sure the interior is terrible and it probably doesn’t drive well either, but it’s got a NA V8! Which automatically makes it better than any of the other recent hire cars you’ve had.
Going to be a tough period for you, but sounds like you’ve got plenty to keep you busy.

Some pics. The truck is something I’d use to do a specific job but I can’t understand why anyone would want one as a daily driver. Miya about the size of an F-150 and feels too big. the engine is great, sounds good, pulls well but the whole thing is wallowy in bends. I parked it beside my car and I really prefer my own. The truck range is about 500 miles to a tank which is ok, but I put 14 gallons in it yesterday and it wasn’t even near full. Also, the attached images show the ash that’s fallen in the last day from the Dixie fire, now the second largest in California history. It’s over an hour away and is dropping ash all over. Considering I drove my car less than 24 hours ago, it will give you an idea of how bad it is. Anyway, I’ve to load the truck up now for a dump run.

There's an eerie orange glow in the sky on your first two photos. I hope the fire doesn't get any closer to you

There's an eerie orange glow in the sky on your first two photos. I hope the fire doesn't get any closer to you When the smoke gets really bad, it’s like that. The sun stays red all the time, like a scene from Mars. It stayed this way for weeks the last 2 years and has been particularly bad over the past 4 years. I don’t think it will get much closer, however it’s over 500,00 acres now and is not contained yet.

Based on those fires, I hope you won't need to find out if a RAM 1500 is the perfect truck for the apocalypse.....
