Great again,I think most on here are of the age when we can remember GB winning 2 or 3 golds at most.Shows what a bit of cash can do.
The wall climbing and bmx was fun to watch, but some of the older sports really do need retiring they are simply not spectator sports (shooting and the like)

It shouldn’t really matter but I do like beating the Aussies and being top European nation (I’m not counting Russia). Of course we’ll get our arses kicked in the Winter games….

You never know, Eddie might get another come back. "Ski equipped Zimmer sets new world record".

Not seen one second of it. I’ve followed the medal table but the Olympics stopped being an attraction in my 20s.

Shame it was on at the wrong time of day so missed most of it but did see the highlights of a few decent events. The lack of crowds obviously didn't help but don't think it stole too much from the show.

I love it - wasn't sure beforehand but as soon as it started I really enjoyed it.
I'm another one who was fretting over whether we'd beat the Aussies. When we started to actually fund sport properly plenty of Aussie commentators were very (cockily) sure we would never surpass them. Haha.
Growing up interested in sport, but seeing us do terribly at the Olympics, and barely winning a stage of the tour de france, and so on it still seems incredible how far we have come in my adult lifetime. I know a lot of people don't care, and I certainly don't think sport is clean, but I think it's human life in microcosm - the struggles, the ecstasy of winning, the emotion of the good and the bad - I think it has the important ability to make us all more active, aiding our mental health and the physical health and wellbeing of the nation....

What appealed most was the camaraderie of the athletes. A good sign that competition does not necessarily mean going ott.

I was very ambivalent about the whole thing. Until it started. Then it was way better than expected.
Great to see team GB doing so well in the medal table and on top of that a lot of near misses in 4th too. It was as recently as 1996 that we only got one gold. Lottery Funding has been a brilliant thing for sport in general in the UK and as we love sport so much as a nation, it is only right that we give athletes the best chance of doing well.
The fish woman has been a bit quiet hasn't she? Things like Team GB really show the benefits of the UK over a collection of countries.

I really enjoyed these Olympics (and always do). I normally watched 30 minutes over breakfast at about 5.45 and then caught up with the rest when I watched highlights after I got home at night. I reckon the National Lottery has made a huge difference for sport, not only to the athletes who go on and compete, but to the population as a whole and for the aspirations of children who want to go on and represent their country in the future - there is now a structure in place which gives them that opportunity whereas in my youth, it was largely up to the individual.
There is a bit of national pride watching Brits win medals and I think it makes the whole nation feel a bit better about themselves.

I think Boris should mandate Team GB do an open top bus parade around Scotland, starting and ending at Holyrood.

I think Boris should mandate Team GB do an open top bus parade around Scotland, starting and ending at Holyrood. If they can then throw Boris OFF the top of the bus when they arrive, I'm all for it! A fairly high proportion of the medal winners are Scots you know .. .. ..
