Following on from chocy's thread, my own tale of woe was equally annoying but, sadly, less positive in outcome. Moseying down a well-travelled road in Springburn yesterday morning, on my way to a visit near the High Court in Glasgow. Passed a bus that was dropping passengers at a stop, and about 50 yards further on Mr Cockwomble on the pavement decided he was going to cross the road, despite me already about to occupy said stretch of tarmac! Cue a stomp on the brakes and swerve away from him - and both off-side tyres running over the stupid traffic island thing in the centre of the road. I thought I'd got away with it, especially as the tyres pressure loss light, well, didn't, that was until I pulled into a local car park and surveyed the damage. The front tyre was just reaching total deflation point, while the rear seems to be OK - that one sustained rather less of an impact than the front and nothing seems amiss. Sadly, due to the 4x4 nature of the mighty Skoda's drivetrain, I've decided I had order TWO new PS4's for the front, despite only fitting the complete new set a few months ago! Hopeful I may be able to get a few quid from the tyre man and he can sell the other one on as a part-worn. PS - Got the car booked in for a 4-wheel alignment at the weekend, in case anyone was wondering. The guy I use knows the car, and will check everything out thoroughly for me while he's there.

I did wonder some time ago if the super water guns could be loaded with long lasting dye and skunk urine to 'point out' foot patrol and cycling members of the Darwin appreciation society but got shouted down. Now, where did I leave that water gun? ?

That is a pisser.
Would it not be wise to keep the good tyre? It might come in handy.
I ran over some debris on the motorway and needed a new tyre last week for my Jazz (ooh, did I not mention that I had one), thankfully a Kuhmo was only £50, but the lack of a spare meant pumping up the tyre anytime I wanted to go anywhere.

Bugger! What can you do though? When we were young a friend of mine hit the kerb - hard - avoiding someone's kid who ran into the road. The mum scooped up the kid and left at speed, his suspension was totally collapsed on that side, and it needed recovery and a wheel, tyre and suspension parts. Working in road safety as I do, the stats on pedestrians killed are always high, but in >80% of cases it is said to be entirely the pedestrian's fault and I well believe that. It's a shame we get vilified as a result of the unequal contest between human and steel. The 4x4 thing is interesting. Tina's A5 is a quattro, and clearly had suffered some form of NSF incident as some of the bits there are suspiciously new, the tyre was newer, and one bit of plastic trim cracked. It was from a main dealer and not only does the tyre have more tread, it's a different one (an older P Zero Rosso - not later P Zero like the other 3 - so probably a slightly different size even when new). Not ideal on a 4WD, but she won't keep it long enough to be a problem - its amazing I'm still here

He showed me the huge pile of part-worns he has at the side of his garage, so I could understand his reluctance. It wasn't quite as loudly stated by the stealership mind, so I was always a bit ambivalent about it. However, since the rear tyre did get a bit of a thump too, I thought it would be better safe than sorry and got them swapped over as I said to Brian. Tyre guy also does alignment, and although it hasn't been on a machine as yet, the tech had a good look and doesn't reckon the alignment is so far out of whack that I can't drive it as normal for the few days it'll take til I can get it done. Happy enough with that for the time being.

How bloody annoying, but in one way thank goodness it was just tyres. Could have been a lot worse for you if the suspension had been damaged.

That is annoying. Could be worth getting the suspension checked as there could be some unseen minor damage that doesn't affect the day to day drive but leads to an MOT failure later on for excessive play.

I put new tyres on the front of the 320 with worn rears and that lead to some sort of transfer box issue (that wasn't terminal to the box in the time I had the car) and a potential £4,500 bill. The car had just been serviced by the dealer, who did the usual video that included tread depths, when the issue started and there was no warning about uneven tyre wear yet a bit of research online showed it to be a pretty big thing in BMW xDrive circles. When the time came to replace the 320 an xDrive of any sort was definitely NOT on the list of options.
