The irony isn't lost on me, but whilst taking Mrs Chocy's VW UP for a little mechanical work, I was reversed into.
I'd came around a corner with a line of parked cars on the left and a Transit coming in the other direction blocking my way. No worries, I'll wait the ten seconds....the last parked car stuck on his reverse lights and pulled back, I thought he'd want to pull out after the Transit passed. He kept on reversing until I realised he wasn't going to stop, I sounded the horn but he bumped into the nearside front corner.
I jumped out, with my mind racing with the grief if it all as the other driver comes across, a young lad in his early twenties, and says...." I'm really sorry, that's entirely my fault, I didn't see you were there. I'll call my insurance company straight away and admit liability."
I took pictures and exchanged details, expecting it to fall apart from there. Within 15 minutes his insurance company (Direct line) had called saying he accepted liability, they'd arrange a repair and a courtesy car.
That was two weeks ago today and I'm having a great time spinning around in a Thrifty supplied Ford Puma. All going well, we'll get the Up back tomorrow....but I've not heard anything and it's already been delayed a couple of days.
Overall though, it's been a pretty painless experience, as accidents go.
I'll try to add pictures if I can work out how to.

Good that you haven't let it get you down.

Ouch. That looks as though he decided to reverse with a bit of speed. Glad it's getting sorted with the minimum of hassle.

Ouch indeed. I bet that needed quite a few new panels to sort that out.

That's a bit of a pain in the rear and no mistake. Glad he sorted it out so quickly though, makes a refreshing change to hear someone admitting their own guilt!

I'm glad he owned up, such behaviour does raise the bar but he needs to adopt a higher standard of attnetion. How did you find the elevated driving position of the Puma compared to the original?

Ouch. That looks as though he decided to reverse with a bit of speed. Glad it's getting sorted with the minimum of hassle. After the initial contact, he then selected first and pulled away, causing more damage. I clipped the bumper back together to get home, so it was fine in that respect. I did get a bit concerned about the possibility of it being a write off. It'll have needed three parts of the bumper, a wing, a headlamp, plus the labour and paint. Quick calculations and I think it'll be a £2000 repair, on a £3k car! Thankfully it is getting fixed, as Mrs Chocy is quite attached to it.

By his own admission it was a Total lack of observation. I'll do a proper write up for the Puma, but I do really like it. I wanted to hate it as it's so different to the original version, but it's such a competent vehicle. I even like the colour, which should be called.....Primer.

It's astonishing how smoothly things go when it's not your fault. When I had my recent flying motorcyclist experience I logged onto Aviva's website and started the claim. Within hours I had a call from Enterprise to arrange a hire Merc, another from a legal firm offering to recover my uninsured losses, and an email from Aviva telling me to book the car in for repair and there will be no excess to pay. Completely painless (unless you're the motorcyclist, of course).

Good on the lad for admitting it - unusual these days!
How is the Puma though?
All these bumps on the forum are making me nervous...................
