There's a lovely looking blue Subaru BRZ, parks near me, tucked up behind some sturdy gates with a blue Impreza as a stable mate. It has a huge desirability factor.
I hope the test drives go well.

Mate of mine has an Audi TTS.I like it a great deal - quick when you want it to be, very easy to live with, fab interior. Is that in your budget?

Much better is stretching it Andy, it's only the wing that's smaller, all the other stuck on bits and triple exhaust are still present! I agree with Racing, it will be a huge tosser magnet even with the small wing. Not that you should buy something based on how people will react to it (positive or negative), but it can be really annoying in the Golf and that's practically invisible compared to a Civic. The Yaris GR would be a great option while the kids are small, but can you get one other than something used and overpriced / over budget?

I do genuinely think it looks much better in grey with no wing. I would have one now, and I wouldn't have before.

It looks like the hatch equivalent of the technical hypercar with the aim to sell more probably. Undoubtedly a very capable machine it does look like it is trying too hard.

The twat magnet factor is a consideration, it was very irritating with the VX220 (far less of an issue with the Fiesta surprisingly). I've grown used to the Civic's looks, which for me are outweighed by what it can do.
May 2022 at the earliest for a new GR Yaris apparently.
There will also be a new GR86 coupé sometime next year.
Audi TTS and Scirocco R are good ideas. I'll investigate.
There really are a lot of tempting options!

I'll caveat this by saying I haven't driven either but aren't the TT and Scirocco possibly a bit dull to drive, at least by motoring journo criteria? They certainly go mad for the Civic. What about a Renault Sport Megane?

It's funny, but when the BRZ, Yaris, and CTR are mentioned, the one I find myself wishing Eff One would buy so I could cadge a ride in it, is the CTR. Not just because we ran one from new years ago as then-Mrs ALF's car and I'm interested to see how it compares, but the reviews are just......... mighty. It's ability to shrug off UK roads (crucial if you actually want to enjoy a car on B roads here) and its sheer road and track pace are incredible, and the words written about the feedback and driving experience likewise. I'd have one - as subtle as possible - if I was not doing so many long motorway schleps needing a good auto.
The Yaris is interesting for sure, in standard form it's a decent small car, it doesn't quite seem sufficiently maniacal to me - amazing that they went so bespoke on it, they didn't quite go full Group B on the engine and personally I get more out of using the performance out of bends, than having to throw the car around the bend at insane speeds to really enjoy it. Which would - far more so - the the issue of the BRZ. The Boxster shrugs off bends with nonchalence even when attacked, then comes close to lacking sufficient oomph to be as enjoyable as it might (though I am rediscovering my inner hooligan, north of 4k revs its quite rapid). Good handling and especially grip requires big power also in my book.
But that's me - all of these cars will be a great steer!

It's ability to shrug off UK roads (crucial if you actually want to enjoy a car on B roads here) ...... I don't know what your roads are like but I'm increasingly thinking something like a Shogun or L200 on 16 inch wheels is the best bet for most of the roads round here. Balloon tyres and switchable 4wd are generally a better bet then 19 inch wheels and ultra low sidewalls. Even on the bloody motorways

^ Scotland is not noted for its motorways, I think they can still be counted on the fingers of one hand (I almost wrote "on the fingers of one finger")

... and the total mileage is?
At least it looks like a few more have been built compared to when I used to drive there on business a lot in the 1990's

I don't think there are any motorways north of the line between Perth & Dundee, in fact doesn't the motorway stop at PErth and become the A90? Can't think why there are so few motorways in the north (not just Scotland). I'm sure that there are still sections of the A1 that are single carriageway and, as a bitter northerner, I can't help think that if that road was in the South East somewhere it'd be at least 3 lanes

It would be a 'smart' motorway and we would only be allowed to use the hard shoulder most of the time.

According to them, the M90 runs from Perth, all the way South through Dunfermline, over the (newest) bridge as far as just West of Kirkliston. I also noticed there's the A823(M), which seems to be a small spur off towards Pitreavie a mile or two North of Inverkeithing.

That'll be the bit that goes along to the roundabout at the top of Rosyth, past the Sky TV building. It's about a mile long and you join it where the sliproad comes up from the bottom part of Rosyth so effectively have some cars coming off the M90 across the nose of those wanting to join. It's a shit junction and I'm surprised there aren't more accidents.

Harder to see on the one photographed outdoors, but the indoor one looks mint. The outdoor one needs the discs scrubbed off properly......... Also the (diminutive) size of the brakes gives a good indication of the performance levels, these are definitely a "try it and see if its quick enough" car...

Itching to drive one but time and local availability have been an issue. My nearest dealer does now have a mint 2015 car though...

The Rallye, one of the performance bargains of it's time. Not at £14k for a 200k mile antique it’s not.
