That's a really nice set of changes, it looks great in Gentian Blue with 21" GT Design wheels in satin platinum. It's just a shame you can't get rid of the tinted rear lights as they look aftermarket.
The GTS is the one to have, the premium isn't huge once you've got it to the spec you want, it will be worth more when the time comes to sell and in the meantime (which is the most important thing!) you'll been enjoying a car that's better to driver and quicker . I've just configured one and without going completely mad got to £79,603, dropping down to absolute essentials didn't make a huge difference (£76,375) and full Martin spec is £83,500.

I like that. You would get a good price for the BMW now, so it could be the time...

Get the GTS in a dark colour and you won't have to worry about the front end looking like a crap SEAT form 10 years ago (ref the article - body colour is much preferable).
Go on, do it.

Its no doubt a fantastic car as I've always been super impressed with any Macan I've driven. I've no idea on what you've added martin but my spec comes in at just shy of 70K. I'd still need my head examining paying that for a Macan but obviously I'm in the minority given their resale value. The looks are ok but I've never got on with the facelifts rear end.

I like that. You would get a good price for the BMW now, so it could be the time... I guess Porsche will be suffering from the same semi-conductor supply / production issues as everyone else, then you could order now and not see one for a year. Used value could change a lot in that period of time, but it is more time to save up.

Well I could happily order one now and not see it for a year - I could easily run the 4GC for another year - it's only got 36k miles on the clock. That's not a big issue. I've been looking at things like F-Types but they are all just very impractical and for one reason or another, I'm just always going to be best served by a Swiss armyknife of a car and really I can't see anything else that ticks as many boxes for me.
I agree that it's an awful lot of money but they are so stupidly expensive second-hand - £50k for a five year old GTS or Turbo with 40+k miles - that buying new might be the best way.
I'm not mad on the revised rear end but then I never much cared for the original rear either, so that makes little odds. It's not new-BMW-grille-ugly.

I tried again so I could get the code and must have missed something last time....it's £80,277 now. As I said, I really haven't gone mad as I've missed off the Burmester (which I'd want...) and some of the nice to have extra leather bits etc, all of which I've got used to over the last few years. www.porsche-code.com/PNVYDX13I suppose I could lose the race-tex headliner, full leather and contrast stitching to drop £4k off the cost but the last 2 are options we really enjoyed on the Boxster and they made it feel more special every time we sat in it. If you are going to spend £76k on a Macan, which I think is too much for a small SUV no matter how nice, then what's another £4k really. So stuff it, I'll add the Burmester and let's call it ££83k all in!

I’d still be looking at Stelvio’s Yes, it would be rude not to. But I must confess that I'm not that keen on the styling of them, and the interior and tech gets a pretty poor rep... I have driven a cooking (280bhp) Stelvio before and it was perfectly nice without leaving me wanting one. Whereas I drove a Macan S last year and liked almost everything about it except the performance and engine, which was just a teeny bit lacking compared to my current car. This new S gets a completely different engine (looks frankly to be what was offered in the outgoing GTS) so might fix that.

Definitely cheaper than buying used right now with the current prices. Porsche finance will be expensive though as the rates aren't great and they lowball the residuals, so finding an alternative way of financing could make it very good value. You should be able to bank on £40k in 4 years time, so if you financed it yourself that's only £625 a month. Had a quick look at a £70k Turbo PCP deal on Magnitude as that's always a good guide, £10k down and a residual of £37k (so you'd get some of the deposit back) works out at £765 a month although that's over £900 a month on a like for like basis. Those sort of differences is why I've funded the last 3 cars myself, 30% is a lot more to pay!

So…I didn’t bother with: - Sport Chrono – having read around, it doesn’t seem essential on a GTS - GT alloys – for £800 less the Turbo ones are equally nice in my view - Coloured stitching – can live without - need to go and see what Agate leather looks like in real life – so long as it doesn’t look close to paedo leather, it might be my choice. - Laminated glass – no, merely privacy and not sure why I need rear blinds at that point either - Tinted lights – no, couldn’t care less - Full park assist – no just added a reversing camera - Speed limit indicator, adaptive cruise and comfort access are all unnecessary FG that I’ve never missed on my previous cars - Heated windscreen and heated rear seats I care not about, and ventilated seats are nice but not essential - The standard steering wheel is fine - Really not bothered about the headlining - I don’t much care for carbon trim so went for the Walnut which is free - Wireless phone charging I didn’t bother with either – don’t have that in the house, much less in the car. And somehow that’s about £9k less.

So stuff it, I'll add the Burmester and let's call it ££83k all in! So…I didn’t bother with: - Sport Chrono – having read around, it doesn’t seem essential on a GTS OK- GT alloys – for £800 less the Turbo ones are equally nice in my view They are nice, but prefer the GT alloys and they look easier to clean!- Coloured stitching – can live without - need to go and see what Agate leather looks like in real life – so long as it doesn’t look close to paedo leather, it might be my choice. I could live without it, but see my point about about it feeling special, and a £70k+ small SUV should feel very special indeed.... so it stays for me. I really don't like Agate leather. - Laminated glass – no, merely privacy and not sure why I need rear blinds at that point either Chosen for the insulating part, the reduced wind noise would be a bonus and privacy glass is just darkened glass, it's not solar like on a BMW as far as I know. I've got double glazed solar attenuating glass in my car and it makes a huge difference when it's warm plus the car looks better without privacy glass. The blinds are due to having a toddler and means I wouldn't need privacy glass to keep the sun out of his eyes.- Tinted lights – no, couldn’t care less The std lights are tinted, that's not the option, it's PDLS+, so it was selected because it's got dynamic high beam (not quite Matrix, but better than std for only £300)- Full park assist – no just added a reversing camera Once you've lived with a surround camera, you wouldn't want to go back even though it's not a huge car- Speed limit indicator, adaptive cruise and comfort access are all unnecessary FG that I’ve never missed on my previous cars Speed limit indicator is brilliant, even the Golf has the other 2 option, both would be missed- Heated windscreen and heated rear seats I care not about, and ventilated seats are nice but not essential Again....you wouldn't think that about ventilated seats if you'd had them. My eldest two would be upset at losing ventilated rear seats, there would be a mutiny if they weren't heated!- The standard steering wheel is fine It is, but it's a GTS....- Really not bothered about the headlining It is expensive, but really lifts the quality feel another notch in any car. - I don’t much care for carbon trim so went for the Walnut which is free Walnut in a GTS would drop £5k from the residual value..... - Wireless phone charging I didn’t bother with either – don’t have that in the house, much less in the car. I miss not having it in my carAnd somehow that’s about £9k less. Added some comments. Some of the differences in thinking will be due to the amount of time we each spend in the car and the problem with having FG is you quickly get used to it which does make the next car harder to find and/or more expensive.

I've got to say, if I had the spare cash I'd be very tempted by one of these. Ticks a lot of boxes.

At silverstone classic the other year, you could drive selected Alfa's . One of them was a Stelvio QF. I'd forgot my license, so Dan G drove and I tagged along while he drove the bollox off this thing around the country lanes near Silverstone. The engine is seriously impressive. I imagine the 280 is like the EA888. Quick but dull.

So too early to get quotes yet as they won't have the predicted residuals for another couple of weeks.
But an order now would be delivery at the end of the year apparently, which is shorter than I expected.

Walk around video, with engine/exhaust sound at 3:10. Hopefully it sounds better outside, but I’m not convinced as GPFs have ruined so many cars.

Thanks. It has the same slightly too deep and throbby sound that afflicts my car - I prefer the clearer more soprano engine sounds of yore.

I've driven a couple of Macans and thought they were great. As you say a swiss army knife of a car. I like the size and the fact that they feel and sound (with the right engine) like a proper Porsche. Might not suit you, but you could order and trade your BMW now if you can manage as a one car family for a few months. Might mean you benefit from sky high SH prices at the moment.

I potentially need my car next month to go away to France/Italy next month (unless it all goes to hell in a handcart and either we can't leave here or France/Italy bars us from entering). But come the autumn it's a possibility.
But I may defer - my wife (already down in Italy) finally agreed the purchase a property in Fano yesterday - the benefits of being there in person to negotiate with the octogenarian sellers. All being well, that will probably complete in September, so I'd want to avoid doing the two things at the same time.

Sounds good, fingers crossed for you that all goes well. Thanks Mike. It's just a little roof-top flat in the historic centre of my wife's home town, but it has a decent terrace, a spacious garage and is 10 mins walk to the beach. And most importantly will be our own space after a three year hunt.
