I suspect companies justify the miserly 4ppm EV rate by pointing out the almost free car employees are given use of.

Define interesting? You'll get hammered for something like an A6 with a 2 litre diesel, petrol ones aren't much better. Much better to follow Martin's lead if you can.Pretty good advice in general Tim. If I take everything into account including the private mileage saving, opting back in (so losing my allowance) and going for a Model 3 Long Range, it would save me over £1,000 a month. Which I know is a huge amount, but I'd need to swap the Golf for a more expensive large family vehicle which would start to eat into the saving. It's not a fair comparison as the Model 3 is less than half the cost new of my car so you'd expect it to be a lot cheaper, but the low tax does make a big difference for now. If I kept my car, sold the Golf, on top of the cash going back into savings I'd save about £450 a month this year. But that's the replacement budget rather than true cost of the Golf so far, that would make the costs pretty equal and I'd much rather just keep the Golf than run a Model 3 for the next 4 years. At 4ppm or whatever it is and no running costs, I'd be too tempted to drive that all the time, so that puts me off getting one as well. There will be a time when I have to have an EV, but it doesn't have to be now. To answer Michael's question, it's not easy at all. And you lose control. I can swap to whatever I want when I want and won't suffer from policy changes such as the one Bryan outlined at the start of this thread.

You do have to ask who comes up with this tripe. The condition of the various RM vans delivering the post in our area is something else. Lately its a 05 plate Vauxhall Combo van with paint so faded it was pink and dents in every panel. What does moving a few managers of a certain grade or above do to your carbon footprint as a business. Our postie drives round in a battered combo which is also an 05 plate and sounds like a bag of nails. Must be about time they invested in some newer vans. Maybe being in a rural area they don't have so much pressure from local councils to have cleaner vehicles.

I rarely, if ever, see postie vans round our way, but there are a lot round about my workplace and I can't think of seeing any under 5 years old. There may be something in that Alex.

Quite right too, can't have him lowering the tone of the estate.

I solved the castor shimmy issue on those trollies You should go work for the supermarkets, you'd become a millionaire. I remember being offered a job by the makers of those things.

On my unsuccessful trip to the BMW garage on Sunday I drove past the big sorting office at the top of Dundee and all the vans were parked out on the street. There were a lot of white 70 plate vans on hire in amongst the usual red ones but I onoy noticed because they stood out. Our postie drives a newish Renault Kangoo but I'm not sure exactly how old it is. It's never clean but then this is a rural area. It's got a fairly large scrape on the nearside sill which may have been done on a large stone at the bottom of our drive.....

A lot of the post vans I have seen recently have been plain white hired vans.

Our postie uses a handcart, various of which get chained to lampposts on the route. He then fills his bag from them as he walks the route. Even the sorting office acknowledges that he is the best postman in the district and he gets a decent Christmas box from us.

It involved a Danish wheelchair manufacturer, a trip to China to get their factory to work with ours and the back brakes were from Italy but fitted in Newcastle..... Oh and we have loads of hire vans as we can't have 2 people sharing a van at the moment....

We weren’t allowed 2 in a unit which made new driver assessments very difficult, but with masks it’s now OK (I know they are further apart than in a van) and it’s not like your guys will in there for hours. If you can sit next to a stranger on a plane, I don’t see why you can’t sit next to a colleague (for a shorter period) in a van.

My postie is in a brand new hire van at the minute. He also normally has a faded red combo , I think it’s 05 or 55 plate
