Had one of these 2 weeks ago as a rental car. It has a 1.5 turbo engine that gives out somewhere around 160bhp.
Pros: it was economical on the 500 mile round trip I made in a day, returning 34mpg combined in heavy Silicon Valley traffic and 80mph interstate runs. Engine pulled well over 60mph too. It synced with my phone and played whatever I wanted over the reasonably good sound system. Also quite spacious, probably Mondeo sized, certainly felt bigger than a Focus.
Cons: suspension was bad. It bumped and jumped over every undulation on the road but handled ok. It had been respected a good bit too, suggesting a front end collision sometime in its 11,000 miles.
I wouldn't buy one, or choose one for long term driving.

The only Malibu I knew about was the one from the 60s.
According to Wiki, it's related to the Insignia.

According to Wiki, it's related to the Insignia. I didn't know that - I assumed it was some US only chassis. Of course there is always the Buick Regal which is an Insignia. Odd that they have one car that's related and one that is. Can't be that sensible product wise?

Buick is a more upmarket brand targeting the oldies - it certainly used to be - Chevy is targeting the good 'ole boys or Joe Public.
