It's awesome VFM - but how it sells is surely going to come down to the finance deals that can be structured. If they cannot agree a decent GMFV and cannot access a decent interest rate, it's going to be more expensive than a 992 or a sexed up Cayster.

Better then money in the bank that is Martin. Get it bought. I'm cursing my lack of funds. I'm cursing myself a bit, as I know a 2 seater won't work as a second car, even though Lindsay has said we should find a way around that for an Emira. There's the small matter of a couple of expensive holidays and an extension/new kitchen to pay for as well in the next year, so the timing isn't right anyway. Will seriously consider it in 12-18 months time though, assuming it's as good to drive as it looks and they do a decent job of building them.

Your right, I don't see Lotus coming up with a decent option, probably 40odd% balloon at 7.9% but I see third party funders coming up with decent options with Balloons of 45K on 75K purchase price over 3 years, the rates will still be high thanks to the new legislation of regulated agreements but should make it affordable. Having just run some numbers 75K 20% deposit (normal in this sector) Balloon of 50% 48 x £709.22

Sounds like you're talking yourself into it Ed.
I really hope it sells well. It certainly deserves to. I just hope it's not like the Alpine A110 where a lot of potential buyers really like it, go see and drive it and like it even more, and then go and buy a Porsche.

It's about time they had a runaway success. It does look bloody good too.

Given that I am clearly right slap bang in the middle of their target market for this car, and I drove the Elise, Exige and Evora last year, I've been following things closely. It does look really good in Martin spec on the previous page and I agree that it appears excellent value for money.
If I didn't have a Cayman GTS I would be all over this Emira. I look forward to test driving the Emira next year and then seeing what decision I might make.
Bravo, Lotus.

I just hope it's not like the Alpine A110 where a lot of potential buyers really like it, go see and drive it and like it even more, and then go and buy a Porsche. Hehe Given my luddite gearbox preferences, the Alpine was never something I was particularly interested in. Although I did go for a test-sit in their dealership near Solihull. Buying a Porsche is unlikely to be a poor purchasing decision, even if you're just buying it for the badge! While the Cayman isn't to everyone's taste and it's certainly more conservative-looking than the Emira - it's a very finely honed thing, especially in GTS 4.0 guise in my experience. The damping is top notch, the interior quality is excellent, as is the driving position, gear shift quality, pedal feel etc etc - all the things that make the car usable all year round on a daily basis if you wanted to. That's what Lotus need to be able to emulate if they want conquest sales from Porsche buyers. As I said following my test drives in July 2020, the Lotuses win on things like steering feel and excitement, but that is far less important than everyday usability to *most* buyers with about £70k to spend on an indulgent purchase. I'm genuinely hopeful about the Emira but it will need to be bloody brilliant if it's going to tempt me out of my Cayman and I'm not going to change the car just for change's sake. Because if I didn't like the Emira as much as the Cayman, I might not be able to get another one (new to my spec)!

I absolutely do not think buying a Porsche is a bad decision for one to make. The experience Alpine have had is one that just highlights how difficult it is to give a Porsche buyer reason to question their decision. Porsche don't generally make any slip ups to help you along and whilst the Alpine is a great car in so many ways but it isn't better than a Cayman in any clear cut way save for perhaps being not so ubiquitous. But if you're sinking 70k of hard earned cash into a new sports car the decision for most people won't hinge on whether the car they're choosing is the obvious choice or not.
The Emira deserves to do well and I think that the draw of the Lotus name is one that will really help it. To me the Lotus name just feels a little more exotic than Porsche. It will make buyers feel like it's a step up in the same way that a buying a McLaren 570 feels more special than buying an Audi R8. You're stepping up into the big leagues in terms of brand.

Interesting he’s ordered one The V6 in that video sounds great . Not a fan of the colour he's chosen but then you know I don't like grey cars! I'd go for the blue or maybe the yellow. I don't think the red suits it but the dark green with tan leather might look alright. The V6 he went in didn't have the sports exhaust either and still sounded great.

^^^ The marketing department of Lotus must have bought a customer list from Porsche and know where you live!

I've only seen the Evo review so far which I've linked below. I need to watch a few more but Jethro, who happens to be one of my o to journos, was far from impressed. Comes to something if he thinks the 4cyl auto will be the one to have.

Comes to something if he thinks the 4cyl auto will be the one to have. I've watched a few reviews and he's not the only one that has suggested the smaller engined car could be better. One thing to bear in mins is there does seem to be a big difference between the comfort and sport chassis in terms of how they are on the road, Harry M's video has a really good comparison between the two.

I haven't read the reviews yet but are these ones all coming from 'pro' drivers?
Assuming the V6 isn't a total dog I would probably prefer it just for the extra sound and push. That's speaking as someone who NEVER switches the traction/stability control off. It reminds me of ancient history and the reviews when the facelifted Alfa 75 was released - journos preferred the 2 litre for the lighter nose and better turn in. Having subsequently spent a reasonable amount of time between the 2 and 3 litre versions I would take the big engined one every time because to my limited abilities there was little discernible difference in handling but a huge one in sound and performance.
