I get about 2/3rds street prices, and FOC shipping, for being part of Bridgestone. As I have weird tyre sizes with my cold-forged optional "XFR-S" wheels, we didn't have tyres that fitted my car (embarrassing for the world's largest tyre and rubber company......) until the new "Potenza Sport" which is generally reviewing at or near the top of the pile for sports tyres. My rear P Zeroes were down to 3mm or so, so a pair has been fitted. Will be interesting to see how they go - the first obvious thing is the relatively shallower tread depth, at a bit under 7mm I think - presumably part of an arms race in tyre tests (which are done on new tyres and which some manufacturers have been less than happy about at times). It's a shame in a way that the fronts on the Jag, and the Porsche (the rear is already Bridgestone) have such deep tread as I like to see my paymaster's name on the car... Edited to add- that's 2/3rds the price, so a third off!

With tyres 1/3rd the price I am not surprised you enjoy your queef moments without much thought about tyre longevity!

Yeah that was a cock-up unfortunately I get 70% off RRP, but its only about a third off of the "street price" at the cheapest places. Still a good deal, and it's direct from Bridgestone as well so they have not sat anywhere, which some retail tyres have - and doesn't help performance. My queefery tends to be small corrections more than smoke viewable from a distance...

I'm waiting to see if I can get a discount from Pirelli when I need new rubber.

Have they bought your lot then?
There was a lot of love for the Jag from the two fitters (one of whom - the manager - was young but drives an XE). They couldn't believe the exhaust was standard.... Neither can my neighbours.

Neither can my neighbours. No, we moved from Kumho to Pirelli when we introduced the R model. They have created a special compound of Trofeo R for us.

I still don't like the P Zeros on my GTS. I will relish the switch to Michelin PS4S tyres on that car when it happens.

It’s a lot of money to spend on a car for you not to be completely happy because you know it could be better and for less than £1,000 / 1.something % of the cost of the car. Less the value of the tyres you’d be taking off of course.

Ha! The Micra incident Did I mention I still have the cargo net therefore I need to buy another one to actually use it. We saw a black, early, Nismo version yesterday evening but Mrs Tim still prefers silver...... To keep this vaguely on topic I put P Zeros on the back of the mighty Z and regretted it almost instantly. Not because they were rubbish - they replaced some dealer fitted Jinhus which were laughable in the wet - but because the construction meant that they ended up with a slight Euro look and therefore the rear looked under-tyred whereas with a squarer sidewall I would've been much happier.

There are so many different versions of the P Zero, one being less than great doesn’t mean they all are, some come out pretty well in tests (PZ4 for example).

My PZeros have enormous grip in the warm and dry and are very good in the wet too, when it's warm. However the fall off in performance is huge when the temperature gets below about 7 or 8 degrees.

How old is too old for tyres?
As noted previously, the Bridgestones on my car (wghich it left the factory with) are still going strong, despite having done at least 20k miles already. They had 7mms on the front and 6mm on the back when the tyres were put back on in March, since when they've done a further 3,500 miles.
The car lives outside and you'd think the rubber would degrade over time?

How old is too old for tyres? Five or six years maybe? I'll let you know later this year probably. The winters for the Jag are were 5 winters old and at the last service (November last year) and I was told they had signs of perishing on the inner faces. It passed the MOT Ok and to my eye is change in the surface is minimal. So I'm not sure if that was warning of impending doom or an MOT failure if it gets worse.

Being an accountant, that sounds to me like 1/3rd off a tyre that comes with 2/3rds of the market normal tread depth. So unless they wear really slowly, is that really a bargain?

Tyres do degrade over time, manufacturers recommended 6 years maximum but a tyre up to 5 years old car be sold as new due to them being stored inside. I seem to remember reading that the government were looking at putting a maximum age of 10 years on a tyre, but don't think that went anywhere. I think you'll be fine for a year or two at least, as long as they look OK (no cracking etc).

Don't spoil his man maths! It only has 0.8mm less tread than a PS4S, so the maths still work.

The Pilot Sports I had on the M135i were definitely cracking after 4yrs (and much more worn).

Re the P Zeros on my GTS - my cashflow is severely challenged at the moment due to a few fairly big things happening all at the same time. So replacement will have to wait for a good few months yet. Probably next year. And yes - the tyres have only done about 2500 miles so they need wearing out a bit more, in the value for money stakes
