Front of my car was absolutely covered in flies from our drive back from Italy - took it to my local trusted carwash who set about it with customary vigour but despite several goes (including with some, probably cheap, polish), there are still noticeable dull marks on the front, bonnet and wing mirror casings from where various winged invertebrates met their untimely ends. Any suggestions. Going to have a go with some Autoglym when I get a free moment but anyone got a better suggestion?

Get some bug remover from Halfords. I use G-techniq stuff but Halfords sell Autoglym's equivalent and maybe others.
Edit: How much prettier is that front end than the new car?

Bug & Tar Remover is the stuff I think you need. As JohnC says.

Thanks. I might actually have some of that in the loft although it must be fairly ancient by now.

Baby wipes, followed by a good re-polishing.
I'm really surprised that several decent washes failed to remove the staining

Nope, four of those failed to shift it earlier today! I shall try the bug & tar stuff - I think I have some in my box of car-related junk in the attic.

Do you think that will work now they’ve been sprayed with film remover and rubbed into the clear coat with cheap polish? I was wondering that. Might have t be a clay bar and then reapply some polish. I've also read somewhere that leaving a cloth soaked in hot water over the bugs for 10 minutes can soften them up enough to then remove them. But that may suffer from the same issue as the Kosovans have kindly polished into your paintwork.

Put some wet kitchen roll across it and leave it for a while, it should soften them up so they come off easily.

Ultimately soaking it for while (just in water) will do much of your work for you, which is why I like to dash out after rain and wipe the copiuous mayflies off my car! They dry into an unholy mess that I wouldn't want to try and just move mechanically without soaking.
Keeping it wet for a while with wet kitchen roll or helpful weather, then a hand wash, then a clay bar with plenty of lube, THEN wax would be my method. Clay bars are amazing things at taking crap off paint, wax protects it.

Petrol on a rag. That's pretty much all tar and glue remover is.

We're one step away from advising Racing to urinate on his bonnet.
