I complained to the Council last week about a B road I use regularly where there are trees and bushes growing on the road side of a wall, the other side of which is a field. My complaint was that these trees and bushes are growing into the road and if 2 cars pass at one of the trees, there is no way of avoiding a branch flogging to the side of the car.
I got a phone call from the Council today to say that the responsibility for cutting down the trees lies with the land owner - they are going to contact the land owner and give him/her a notice to have them cut down within 30 days otherwise the Council will arrange it and send him/her the bill. I have to wait a minimum of 30 days but at least they are doing something about it!

That's unusually prompt of them.
My mum got a notice form them a few years ago but assume they'd actually driven past rather than it being a neighbour. The bushes are overhanging the road again now but she's struggling to get hold of a tree surgeon to attend to it.

Clearly, they don't mind banging out a latter to somebody else, telling them to do something. Now if it was their responsibility to do do something, it might be a different story.

I got one of those letters last year demanding that I cut back my hedge that was overhanging the road. Only problem is that I have a wall and it's actually the house across the road that has the overhanging trees/hedge/holly bushes

Our county council appear to have completely stopped any roadside weed spraying whilst they review their weed spraying processes. That might have been a good idea over the winter, maybe by staff WFH but not I the summer when the sides of the streets look a right mess as the weeds in the gutters and drains get ever higher. Coupled with rapidly declining road surfaces, it really does look shabby.

Our county council appear to have completely stopped any roadside weed spraying... Seems they have decided to stop verge mowing round our way. There is one awful get out near us where the high grass blocks the view both ways. A neighbour of ours has now been out and strimmed it as it was so dangerous.

The weeds in the gutters in our street are over a foot high in some places now. How is that any good for the structure of the road surface? And it looks a right mess.
