I finallly took a bit of time to cable my phone up to the Kuga, having downloaded Android Auto.... got it going and........
wish I hadn't bothered TBH. All it seems to offer over bluetooth connectivity is Google Maps and Google Plus, no other apps on the phone available, and no other benefits I can see. All for the inconveniance oif having to remove phone from pocket before getting into the car, and connecting a cable plus having to remebmer the reverse sequence when leaving the car. I'm leaving the phone in my pockert from now on.
Just me, or should there be more features available?

Not tried it, but a Vauxhall Mokka hire car I had in Scotland recently had Apple Car Play and it was mostly the same. Didn't think it worked that well tbh.

I don't like car play much and tend to disable it or use the fag lighter rather than the USB.
Car play is a much nicer interface for Spotify than the regular Bluetooth.
Overriding the cars sat nav for google map annoys me hugely.

Yep agree; Android Auto and Apple Car Play are now filtering into Renault's.
I had a play about with Android Auto in the "New-Koleos" and came away with a bit of a "meh" feeling, I suppose Google maps is better than the standard mapping, however the standard maps are Ok and suit me fine, Spotify wouldn't work but it worked fine through my phone and watch and texts come up fine without Android Auto.
My colleague had a play with his iPhone on Car Play and had a similar view to me.
It is actually a pain in the arse that your phone has to be connected via a lead, anyone know why?

Seems odd to use a cable rather than Bluetooth of wifi.

Sounds like I'm OK with BMW apps. I just use the Spotify app, which works well, but similarly is much better when connected to the cable.

Wireless CarPlay/Andriod Auto are available in some newer cars I think, and should be commonplace soon.
But for now the usable apps are mostly native ones (like CarPlay's navigation is Apple Maps) with only a handful of third party compatibility. I'm sure in time to come more apps will be designed and programmed for use in CP/AA. However, it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation though. There needs to be more widespread use of CP/AA before app developers decide that it's worth adapting their apps accordingly.
