Well I guess it pays to recognise when what you bought isn't right. After all I once owned a 330d for all of three months.
Some of you may recall I mentioned that my father had replaced his SQ5 last autumn with a Q5 55 Hybrid. So I was quite surprised to discover on Saturday when I arrived at his house that he now has a Macan instead. He hadn't said a word about it - but then he doesn't like admitting mistakes. Turns out he hated the Audi - said it was overly complicated and burdened with far too small an engine for such a heavy car. Thankfully it seems he was able to sell it back pretty much for what he bought it for last month and promptly bought a good old-fashioned petrol-engined Porsche instead. Which he loves.
It's a petrol V6 S in dark metallic blue with full black leather, walnut trim, exterior black pack and no roof rails. Didn't get the full spec sheet from him, but it had a pano roof and he told me it had the air suspension. Looked very nice apart from 19" alloys which looked too small for my tastes (but he says it has a very comfortable ride). What did surprise me was that a brand new Porsche was wearing Hankook tyres - is that normal? Maybe Swiss specifications are different but...

Looking it up Hankook are OE on a few of Stuttgart’s finest (or not so finest if you’re a 911-only person).

A Q5 hybrid has zero appeal, he did right to get out of it and into something else.
I am disappointed by the spec of the Macan though, dark blue with black leather....no brown leather let alone a suitable PTS colour..... I like it, but it’s not Racing Snr spec!
Yes, Hankook make tyres for Porsche and if you bought a new RS model it’s likely to have them as well (an OE tyre on the RS6)

I say Night Blue but I’m not sure it is - it was more of a deep electric blue than that - looked more like the Gentian Blue of Dan’s car and Dad did say it was a special order colour. Apparently they felt like a change from green/brown.

Sounds like a good upgrade. A neighbour of ours now has a red Macan S on what look a small 5 spoke wheel but it pulls it off as the tyres have a decent sidewall so the look chunky. Is a Macan a Q5 underneath?

Yes, the old one that Dad had and liked a lot in SQ5+ flavour.

Kind of explains why he didn’t like the hybrid much as he was able to do an apples-apples comparison. I suspect I’ll have the same reservations in a couple of months’ time.

I’m hoping the new tech will detract from the power reduction. Having driven home from StJames this morning I can again confirm that my general driving does not require over 500 bhp but only the experience will let me know for sure.

Is a Macan a Q5 underneath? Most of the ones I see have the small 5 spokes that, to my eyes, clash somewhat with the large bore exhaust pipes. Can we have a poll to see how long BB will keep the new car?

Apparently they felt like a change from green/brown. Having driven past a Night Blue Macan today I can confirm it's definitely not the same colour. Night Blue is quite a dark, subdued shade that's not a million miles from the Carbon Black of my car. Dad's is a much more vivid colour and from a google search I'd say it is Gentian Blue or something very similar to that.
