So, I tried a very local garage for a routine service, I got the nod and picked the car up, was told the oil did not need changing, "It's a light golden brown colour". Charged £3 for half a litre top up.
Obviously I checked and it was black as tar.
I went round today to give the owner a chance to be upfront about an error, after all he did an MOT which was not asked for and I thought he deserved a chance. He completely refused to even talk about it, he could not maintain eye contact and seemed not to give a fuck. So he said he could do the fuel pressure problem on the 7th and was I still bringing my car round. I think not. He only had to come clean and put it right, I was not going to go postal.
£75 and still looking.

A good local garage is worth its weight in gold - we use an independent for both the Mini and the Scirocco now - I feel they do a much better job than the main dealer anyway. One measure of the level of service they provide - they had a customer's Golf in and just couldn't get to the bottom of the problem and it ended up having to be fitted in around their booked in work / MOTs - they knew the young lad who owned it really relied on it to get to work so they bought another car just to loan him whilst they investigated the Golf.

I just do not understand the attitude of some. If they are overworked and don't want the job on that basis it would be better to say so and and retain the chance of future work. Bess passed the MOT with no advisaries anyway but I would have liked the service I actually booked her in for.
