We were watching the Glast bits on the BBC over the course of the weekend. I fell asleep during Foo Fighters, waiting for stuff from the good (early) albums. Biffy Clyro were gash.
How the hell Ed Sheeran scored a headline closing spot is beyond me. He either has a hidden backing band, a backing track or a very complex set of loop and delay pedals, because there were many times when he wasn't actually playing his guitar, yet there was a guitar playing. His songs are ordinary at best - don't get me wrong, I'd rather he be there with songs he's written himself than some Cowell-whore jumped up karaoke numpty. His music isn't my thing in the grand scheme, but I can see talent anywhere and I struggle with him.
Overall, there was only one winner at Glastonbury - Nile Rodgers.
That dude and the rest of Chic turned out a belting set. His bass player could have had a headline slot all to himself.
I'm also a bit pissed off that I couldn't find anything of Napalm Death's set.

closing spot at glasto is least remarkable of what he has done,he sold out wembley stadium 3 nights running,probably biggest male star on planet right now,it's insane .He is very inoffensive,,but what am I missing.Mediocre musical technique,mediocre voice,mediocre words.
I am baffled .
Missed nile rodgers must give it a watch,but highlight for me was radiohead actually playing some of their old (good) stuff.

I'm only aware of having heard about 30 seconds of Ed Sheeran on something like Jools Holland.
I don't feel like I'm missing out.

He's good looking? I might not be 100% tuned into the what constitutes a good looking fella but I don't think Brad Pitt or David Gandy have too much to worry about.
I'm always rather impressed when I watch Ed Sheeran play guitar but then again I have the musicality of a goldfish and think what he does as incredibly difficult. I also rather enjoy Coldplay as I no music snob.
He writes some very catchy songs that appeal to a large number of people and as the worlds no1 artist I guess he deserves his top billing. Was it enough for one man and his guitar and a few peddles to keep everyones attention, probably not but its a lot better then having Beyoncé shake her arse on stage.

Tbh he has a very chilled, down to earth and likeable air about him. A friend of my eldest breeds cats, some specific breed, she had a phone call from a guy wanting to come and see a pair of kittens that he heard she had for sale. The man arrived with his girlfriend, knocked on the door, which was opened by the breeders husband, the first thing the husband said to him was "you look like Ed Sheeran", his reply was "that's because I am Ed Sheeran" It was him (I've seen the photo's), he stayed for a hour and a half, signed the husbands guitar and by all accounts was lovely, normal and very unassuming. |
