Gt3 had one of its engine mounts fail the other day, went into opc and got replaced. Then last week the light comes on again ,not only that but now apparently I overfilled the oil (despite the car doing at least 1000 miles since I topped the oil up ) ,I assume the engine is tilted s due to the engine mount failure hence the odd oil reading.
Anyway car goes into OPC who have no courtesy cars sort me out a loan car ,a mercedes c class. Its just anonymous in every way but the point of the post really is to say how unbelievably bad the quality of the interior it is ,really cheap plastic bits ,I haven't been in a new 3 series but the 335d interior is miles ahead quality wise.I had no idea the c class had become so 'cheap '.

When I sold the gallardo ,one of the many people who arrived to buy it drove up in a c63 n/a car, having always liked them I popped my head inside and literally the plastic was peeling off all over the place, but I was expecting matters to have improved.

'its very unusual sir ' as second engine mount fails (both failed within 3 weeks of each other )
'its very unusual sir' as the 996 turbo caught fire
'its very unusual sir as the 997 turbo electrical wiring loom failed.
I must be very special to have so many unusual problems occur.

You are either very unlucky, or they are not very reliable. ITs not like Stuntman's 987 Cayman was without it's issues either... You have had some big issues with some very high value, relatively young cars - not the image Porsche like to project.

You have had some big issues with some very high value, relatively young cars - not the image Porsche like to project. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine......maybe! If it helps, the only issue we had with our Boxster in just over 4.5 years and 40k miles was a leaking master cylinder, which made a right mess as it was in the pedal area and by the time I noticed It had soaked into the carpets and ruined the mats. Thanks to the Porsche warranty, as well as fixing the problem, they took all the carpets out and cleaned them on the back as well as front and replaced both carpet mats, leaving us a 3 series while the did it all. So, to correct my first sentence, you’d be fine with a warranty!

German cars are unreliable and expensive to fix. If they weren't so good drive we wouldn't put up with it.

Er, isn't the Mondeo meant to be good to drive yet loads of people - me included - picked a BMW when looking at 2 litre diesels! Anyway, Franki's problem just highlights one of the many issues with modern cars. Yes, they're massively competent and can do amazing things but they require so many special parts to do that. I wonder what the cost would be of fixing the engine mounts out of warranty and whether in reality the average driver would notice much difference if they weren't on the car from day 1.

I expect that trick engine mount is worth 0.02 secs per lap at the Ring. On the M6 (or at 130 on the autobahn), not so much difference.

The mounts are £1000 each apparently ,(well according to the invoice they sent me which is wrong as they are covered under warranty) Fairly sure they are not really needed, they are optional on other models I think (via the Sports Chrono pack)
