I was walking past a Ford garage at the weekend and thought a white Puma ST nice enough to wander into the yard and have a look at. It's an unlikely ALF purchase any time soon/ever but I really like the look of them, and the seats looked not to be too high either, though as someone who found a Q3 like sitting on the moon, I daresay I'd find then a bit tall inside...

The local VW place has a red one on the forecourt - I must say it's a cracking looking thing.
A few days before it appeared, they had a silver mk8 Golf GTI arrive, advertised at £32k - and I remember exclaiming " fuck me, 32 grand for a Golf GTI ", but the Poooma is up for £26k.

My wife's stepsister has a Puma hybrid in a bright electric blue. It's a bit surprised-looking at the front in my opinion.

I'm probably less than four weeks away from paying 34 grand for a Yaris! There's a bit more bespoke engineering in a GR Yaris than a Golf GTI and anyway, after 10 years and 20k miles it will have cost you a lot less per month than a pensioner spec Hybrid on a 3 year PCP! If you aren't bothered about metallic paint and want a manual, then the GTI starts at £28k after discount. For £32k you'd be able to add metallic, DSG, DCC, 19" wheels, HK speakers, winter pack and a reversing camera. Even then it does feel like a lot of money and it is only £2.5k less than we paid for the R. But a new R, in the spec that I'd want (not that I want one), which isn't ticking every option box, would have a list price of just over £51k and cost £44,300, you can get to £54k list / £47k net. It's possible to convince yourself that it isn't bad value when an A45S is £61k/£56k after discount and your 3 year old Golf would cost c£26k to buy now if it was on a forecourt as used values have gone even more crazy than new.

What am I not seeing here, the Puma rather then looking like a feline predator as its name would suggest looks like a rather sad frog.

I think the Yaris is great VFM given the spec (AWD, high spec components), high performance (60 on 4 point something, 100 in 11 point something) and relatively low volume (likely high £p/u amortisation).

I think you either get the Yaris or you don't. Fortunately, plenty of people do. It will be the first Japanese car that I've owned, and will probably also be the first car that I modify (Milltek on the 987.1 Cayman S aside). It is now "in transit", having been decanted from a container ship called the Adriatic Highway that left Japan at the end of April and arrived at Portbury Dock on 28th May
