It didn't, no. It's all about aerodynamics / CD factor and it is the most slippery car on the road (I think), but it's only just pipped the new Tesla Model S and that looks quite good. The tech is great though and I'm sure its lovely to waft around in.

Ugly plus it'll certainly need self-drive with all those glitzy screens and graphics to distract the user.
Plus what's the point in equipping a 2.6 tonne electromobile with 760BHP and trying to make it sporty?

I watched a review of it and if the driver looks across at the passenger screen for more than a second or so, the screen dims so it doesn't become a distraction. It needs 760hp to crack 5 seconds to 60mph, because it weighs 2.6 tonnes!

I can see this selling well to a generation that venerates tech and shouting about it. Also, the interior will be exceedingly plush. When does the limo stretch for the China market get released?

Mercedes claims it is capable of Level 3 autonomous driving. I suspect they're aiming for many customers who won't be doing any actual driving with this thing.

I believe the China market still has a preference for chauffeur driven ownership. Hence the comment on the limo version.

From the side it looks like they couldn't decide how to join the front to the rest of the car, so just got Wolfgang the apprentice to weld it on and be done with it. If you block out the front, it is quite a nice shape. Almost AMG 4 door ish. But that front and the join at the A pillar. It's awful.

That’s a pity. Wafting along in an electric s class with a near 500 mile range has plenty of appeal. But you’d need to wear a balaclava in that thing. And park it outside someone else’s house.

Well it’s interesting and a discussion point so that makes it automatically better then 95% of the other cars out there

I’ve been reading more about this, The reviews are excellent (if you’re looking for the ultimate silent luxo barge), but I can’t get past the looks. It’s clearly been made ugly by pushing for efficiency. It’s got the lowest drag coefficient of any production car at 0.2 (Remember when Audi trumpeted the 100 with a 0.3cd? ). I could have been in the market for one if it traded a few miles of range for improved looks.

I think this thread title sums up most cars before long, sadly...
