Not content with rebuilding and repainting one of my bikes, I decided to turn my attention to the other one. This is how it looked shortly after I assembled it from parts left over in my garage. After I stripped it down, I cut off the V brake mounts as it will be running disc only and they just get in the way. A bit of JB Weld to fill it and all is good. I also chopped off the cable guide for the front derailleur as that is no longer required and obtained a different set of forks. The best part is, I sold the forks that were on it for 5 times what I paid for them, which not only paid for the replacements, but also the majority of everything else going on the bike. Obligatory sanded, filled and primed photos. I used a lot of filler primer getting the surface right. The forks also came under attack from the filler and primer. Forks are now resplendent in Ford Sunburst Red with contrasting baby blue decals. Gloss lacquer on the legs, matte lacquer on the stanchions. Frame is Ford Olympic blue with contrasting red decals and is currently at the paintshop getting lacquered professionally.
The red/blue contrast is to continue across the whole bike. Anything mounted to the frame will be red, anything mounted to the forks will be blue. Can't wait to get it out again, the frame is damn near indestructible and great to throw around.

Nice, get it done and get out there! I had a great ride this week, when the trails are (fairly) dry and the vegetation yet to grow, is the best time of year for mountain biking!

The weather of an evening is absolutely perfect right now. Not too hot, not to cold and everywhere in my local playground is bone dry. I did about 11 miles last night, all singletrack and techy stuff and feel loads better for it. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel as I was following a mate on his e-bike, but I kept up perfectly fine.
I've been spoiled by full suspension, I need to get my hardtail chops back up.

Forks a rebuilt with fresh seals and motorcycle spec fork oil, frame has a really deep lacquer. Build is 90% there, waiting for the chainring and cassette. Should be up and running in a week or so.

I’d put a seat on it too before you go for a ride! Joking aside, it looks great. I tried to sort the hydraulic brakes on my 29er and it took me three hours!

Thankfully, the front brake was brand new out of the box and the rear was a project I had sat in my toolbox that had become contaminated, so after a good cleanout and some fresh fluid/pads, it's right as rain.

Next time I will be going down the shotblasting route before repainting: paintstripper and a wire wheel are no fun.
