Gents, I present to you the Flying Briefcase: 2008 330d SE auto. Cruise, climate, moo, flappy paddles, panoramic sunroof, detachable towbar, FSH and a free set of Thule roofbars. Had a lovely drive back up from Devon in it yesterday, cruise on at 85 leptons where possible. Totally silent, effortlessly fast, not even a creak out of the interior or my back. 190 miles on a quarter of a tank.

Looks spot on that. I had an E92 LCI (I think that's right, Martin will correct me if I'm wrong) and it was completely trouble free for over 100k miles. The 3 litre diesel is a great engine and the SE suspension is a lot more comfortable than the rather brittle M-Sport set up. Enjoy!

Looks good Iain. Effortless performance with decent economy and a reasonably sized boot. Cant ask for much more than that really.

Good buy - I really like that! I was blown away at how my similar looking 2007 330i Touring drove, at first I found it a little aloof but the more I had it, the more depth I realised it had. The ride/handling balance, the damping, the sheer grip and traction were all superb and (some smokey smells in traffic aside) it aged really well.
Although the Jaguar setup is keener, the ZF 6 speed box of that age is surprisingly good as well, in auto and manual... A lot of much newer cars have awful auto boxes by comparison.
Enjoy ruling the BMW lane!

That's excellent. I suspect the flappy paddles are a later addition.
Having cruised around for 400 miles last weekend I can confirm what a relaxing place it is sitting behind a 3 litre diesel.

Nice , great all rounder and even now I still can’t get over the performance /consumption ratio .

Does look a bargain in that condition. Enjoy it.
And once sold on it, you'll never want to drop below 6 cylinders again.

Great all rounder. . That engine is really impressive for power/mpg

Great car Blarno. 6 cylinders will spoil you though!

Outstanding! As others have said, the 3- litre six cylinder route is a one way street, until forced to do otherwise.

I'm just not one of them! Does loaning a dehumidifier to a friend who has sold their house and needs to dry out the attic count as essential?

Looks good Blarno, the 6 cylinder diesel is a very good engine for long motorway runs.

I was in a local place for local people. That's totally OK then as far as I am concerned. An essential good turn.

I've swapped the staggered 18s off the E46 onto it because they have a nearly new set of PS4s on that I'm not willing to part with. Needs some spacers on the rear, but that's easy.
After that, the swirl flaps are going and so is the chrome grille.

The E46 wheels will suit it well and spa ers will hopefully make the rear end look less underwheeled

Looking at it with the grey alloys fitted, I'd also be tempted to get the chrome window surrounds wrapped in black.

It looks great. You have xenons as well. I always thought that xenons looked better, as well as the obvious benefit with night driving.

Very nice, good purchase. Hopefully it will be as trouble free as my own E90 which will be 12 years old this week and is possibly driving as well as it ever has.

It’s a great looking car, but I think that black wrapping the chrome will bring it bang up to date.

I've never been a fan of chrome. One of the best bits of my E46 is the factory black pack which makes it look more mean.

I too am not a fan of chrome bits on a car - always tick the black pack if there is one

Not a chrome fan here that's why, reminded by this thread, I ordered some black grilles for the 430. They'll be slightly cheaper than the £250 BMW quoted us to change when we bought the car.

I can safely say that a remap is not needed. It's unnecessarily indecently quick as it is. Literally no effort involved in overtaking - if there's a gap, you're getting past. It even sounds good when given the berries.
