I'm pretty darn happy with what I have, and what's incoming later this year. But I would like to consider some of the following: 991.2 GT3 manual or better still, 992 GT3 manual when the Touring model gets launched (I've asked to be considered for one...) Lotus Exige 390, 410 or 420 Current Aston Vantage V8 manual Mustang Mach 1 The Cayman and the M3 would probably have to go, but I'd keep the incoming Yaris unless/until something else fast, 4WD with a manual gearbox gets launched that I prefer. Just out of interest, Would you go for a 992 over this? www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/11340520

Although not sold in the UK, the Disco 4 was available with the nat asp 5.0 v8 and I know some were imported into the UK.
Originally, the supercharged 5.0 was in the plan for disco 4, but it was dropped during development (either fear of taking sales from RRS or fear of Huston dentists deploying 510 bhp in a disco 4)

I thought this was supposed to be a realistic buy? ST is a fairly decent drivers car, fuel and insurance should be doable but I understand folk with more disposable income would want something more exotic. I take it I could still read about those here so I would not entirely miss out. Indeed - a Fiesta ST would be a lot more money to buy and run, and for what real-world gain? The roads where I drive (where/when Boris permits) are crowded and there is so little opportunity to make use of any "real" performance that there is a lot of enjoyment to be got from getting the most out of a 100bhp 3-pot, especially one I have had from new and therefore know its full history.

Yes you have a fine stable Dan.
I just would like one more car that really sings and feels alive. The Z1s sang and felt effortlessly alive. And the GTA sang and stirred too.
Both our current cars can hold a tune in their own ways, particularly the 440 since I changed the exhaust, and can be amusing to drive but it’s still not quite the same.

Is a second hand ST particularly expensive? Most of what I want isn’t available new anymore so the whole “owned from new” thing is a bit overrated. Yes you have to hunt harder to find an example that has been loved as it should but they exist. I was using our Fiat yesterday and noticed that it might be getting on for 8 yrs old but it’s pretty immaculate - especially inside where it pretty much looks like new still. And it’s not that it gets cleaned particularly often - it’s more than my wife is a clean person who has never eaten or drunk anything in her car, and doesn’t treat it as a mobile dustbin as so many people seem to. Plus she’s had it serviced on the button annually. It’ll be a cracking buy for someone when we eventually sell it.

Holy cow that’s perfect. Damn my lack of funds It's very nice, but that particular one would not be for me. I don't particularly like the colour, the wheels, or the seats. But each to their own!

I looked at it and thought it's the same colour and has the same tartan seat fabric as a 1980s Mk2 Golf GTI I had many moons ago.

Doubt we'll see it thought, sadly.

The fact a 3 year old 911 can be nigh on £200k these days, as evidenced above, shows how tough this is to answer honestly.
I mean 288GTO's and F40's are my ultimate but I'll never be in that financial league, I just enjoy life too much!
Slightly more realistically I have always passionately craved a mid engined V8 Ferrari, 355, 430, and especially 456 - before the pricing boom post 2008 they would have been affordable one day, but they have become jewellery and cost a fortune to actually use - I'd want to drive the thing.
I'd also want to drive it right across Europe at times, the sporty GT has always been my favoured end of the market, proper sports cars try too hard then still get spanked by anything light on track.
I love the R8 and would have a V8 or V10 version if I could afford one. Not sure how GT that is... The latest Bentley Conti I love too but that might take a while to drop low enough.... An F Type V8 I'm pretty sure I will own one day, and a Giulia QF still appeals but I don't see it being much better than what I have and will cost more to run. Very fond of 911 targas if the modern ones ever become sensible money. And the Cayman and Boxster GTS 4.0 just seem nigh on perfect for a smaller car, plus a C63 Cabrio is on a mental shortlist just to hear that engine better.
I'm hugely fond of the Maserati GranTurismo from 4.7l vintage and later - unsure how the running costs are on that. And Aston DBS are a gorgeous GT with a good blend of character and usefulness but while they were great value for a time, they are expensive now as well. They would be - with the new Conti - at the aristocratic end of pretensions, not next time but maybe in 10-20 years time.
There is a lot to be said for finding some of the cars that were peers of these when new, or performance/engine peers at least, but slipped through the net in value terms after a few years and many V8 engined saloons fit the bill there from the XJR through many shapes of E63 AMG. Buy a mechanically sound one at good value, drive it across Europe, spank it, enjoy the drive as much as some of the above - its not as beautiful as them but who cares when you are inside it? There will be pretty electric cars, its the engines I'll miss.

☝️ Always the voice of reason, Alf.
I could see an Audi S5 5 door ticking a load of my boxes. Powerful, creamy V6 and great looks.
A ND MX-5 will probably be an outstanding long-term ownership prospect.

My father had a first gen S5 Sportback and it was all you say, but I do recall him saying that it had been a surprise that the fuel consumption was not significantly better than the V8 RS4 he had before it.
