Utterly boring. What are those weird flaps at the rear corners of the roof, couldn't the hinges fit?

I assume they're for aerodynamics.

Maybe.
Why the hell has it got 400BHP? Nobody needs that in one of these. Are all non-city BEVs going to have such pointless power outputs? Can you imagine your average Volvo SUV driver stepping into one of these after an ICE engined one. They'll crash it before they leave the forecourt.

I don't dislike it, although I would rather have an XC40. More interesting than most others in the segment and 400 horses are never going to be boring.

Common sense, just as scarce as rocking horse droppings.

Am I the only one to think that these "solid" radiator grilles look really naff and it's high time that designers came up with a better "face" for electric cars? Even Tesla haven't got it right IMHO

Agreed but Tesla are not as bad as some.

The solid radiator grilles remind me of the Jensen 541. It has a variable flap that would open to let more air in but in the fully closed position it looks like a blanking plate. That's 1950s tech

Just doesn't look like any way that I'd want to part with the thick end of £60k.
Looks like a £25k car to my eyes.

If that's not the XC40, then what is the XC40 going to look like? A monster truck?

If that's not the XC40, then what is the XC40 going to look like? A monster truck? "That" is an XC40 coupe, no doubt an acquired taste. Goodness knows what the next XC40 will look like

A basic XC40 looks better. The designers of this must secretly admire the X4 ad X6.
Pricing wise, if a Polestar 2 starts at £46k, how the heck can Volvo justify that an XC40 with the back end cut off should be way more expensive? I thought Polestar was meant to be the "premium" brand in the stable?
