"Here's our shiny new next-generation car with all important hybrid power. To visually differentiate it from all our previous models we've changed the, er, er, um well, something's different".
Am I alone in seeing a McLaren on the road (a rare event in these parts) and having absolutely no idea which variant it is? I think they've just copied Audi's 'is it an A4, A6 or A8? check the badge mate' plan.

Certainly where the sports series is concerned I have to agree but still find the 570S and 570GT hugely desirable. The Grand Tourer I have no idea what thats about and neither does the buying public seeing I've never seen one on the road. The 720S is a stunning piece of kit however and you can't compare that to the junior cars. I know legislation is forcing manufacturers down this road of hybrid but I really can't see any benefit to the consumer as its hardly a daily that will be sat on the M25 everyday. I'd take a 570S with massive discount given a choice.

Massive disappointment
The powertrain sounds really intriguing but the design is a joke. They had the chance to come up with something new but instead they copy an existing car

Nope, me too. Though I was quite pleased to have ID'd (confirmed from looking up the reg!) a 570S a few weeks ago.

I'm hoping that the next McLaren will be called the Askeya, playmates !

McLaren's photocopier has paid for itself many times over now. I just can't get into the new breed of McLarens (since the MP4), they're a bit 'supercar by numbers' in terms of looks and they certainly don't sound interesting. I don't doubt they're massively fast and capable, they just don't tweak my bollocks like an F1 or a Diablo or an XJ220.

I commented on Twitter that the McLaren design ethos is reminiscent of the Farina designed Oxford / Cambridge / Riley / Wolseley / Fiat / Peugeot "Badge-engineered" saloons designed in the late '50s and still on sale in the early '70s.
McLaren: hugely capable but a complete non-entity in "wow" factor terms. A base 911 looks more exciting an ownership proposition.
