A friend of a friend has bought my Porsche. He pad a straight £40k. I think that's a decent deal for both of us. I paid £53k for it just under 4 years ago. No major bills, so it's been pretty good value. I'm now in the nice position of being able to take my time and look around at what I want next. I'm in no rush and have no pressing need, so I plan to enjoy looking.

There is so much fun to be had in looking and considering the possibilities there's a certain sadness once the decision has been made, but then the new car anticipation kicks in.

I had one last drive last night. Not ideal road conditions, but there were moments of perfection that made me reflect on how hard it will be to beat that car. The 991 might be 'peak' 911 for me. The only car I've regretted selling in my life so far was my first mk1 mx5. Only time will tell if this is the second regret. Interestingly enough the mx5 and the 911 are both the favourite cars I've owned and the most financially sensible.

Good result. Having only got the 997 in October I'm already looking around for the next thing to replace it. Highest on the list currently is a V10 R8 Manual which I think again will hold its value over a couple of years of ownership.

I know in this forum it's all about the driving experience, but I'm much happier to think I'm not throwing too much cash down the toilet. I don't think a California will be a depreciation nightmare over the next couple of years if I buy right.

Good result on the Porsche over those four years, garry. Ed - I don't think you'd go far wrong with an R8 V8 manual at all. I reckon it would be a lovely thing to own and drive. The only main downsides (for me) would be that it's a bit too big and wide, and the fact that I already have both a mid-engined 2-seat coupe, and a V8 manual

I really like the idea of a V10 R8. Ed - Why are you thinking about changing so soon after getting the 911?

Spend an age finding just the right car and then as soon as you've bought and its on your drive, a week later your looking at what you can get next. I'm enjoying the 997 but haven't gelled with it like I have my previous Caymans. TBF the weathers been pants and I haven't managed to do much with it due to lockdown. Its bloody quick, 380bhp in a relatively small and light package but its not making the hairs stand on end. What does after the GT4 I guess? I will probably change the engine mounts to something a little more hardcore and then look at an exhaust mod. It has PSE but still too quite for my liking.

My Autotrader garage is full of potential options. The weather looks pretty good this coming weekend, so maybe some essential journeys need planning.
