Well these will certainly mark the end of an era. www.lotuscars.com/en-GB/models/I would pick an Exige Sport 390 please. I've just specced one up as I'd want, and it comes to just over £71k on the road. If I had the space and a spare £71k I would be severely tempted. This year is the last call to buy a new car like this, ever. Code for for my spec (go to Configure and then Load): ihkvxmpB Anyone else finding these tempting - either in theory or in practice?

No, for 3 reasons. Doesn’t really suit any part of my life, very expensive, and mostly because there isn’t a hope I could even get in it, let alone drive it.

Having driven an Elise, albeit very briefly at a "supercar" driving day some years back, I found those low-slung roadsters terribly disappointing. The Elise didn't seem particularly powerful or accelerative either. Mind you, the Audi S4 estate didn't accelerate as fast as I thought it would either

How long ago did you have the VX220 and do you think the cars they make now have moved the game on as much as cars that have developed from the ground up?

Mate of mine has just bought a boggo 16 plate Elise and when I saw it, I just thought what a proper little thing it was. The design for the series 2 is what 20 years old and still looks bang up to date. Love them
Agreed Dan that you'll never see its like again. not at the price point anyway. I'm sure the design will be copied for some £1million pound 1000bhp hypercar that nobody wants. The Exige has that just stepped off the track look about it which for the failed racer in me seriously appeals.
I'm off to the configurator
Edited to add, love your spec Dan.
Think mine would be Fire Red, add a stereo, air con, black pack, some carpet and stitching on the seats and I'm happy. Think it came to about 68K

Anyone else finding these tempting - either in theory or in practice? In theory, absolutely. In 2004, when I got my VX220, there was very little on the market - aside from the Elise - that could match it for analogue feel and flow, especially on the road. I think that's even more true now and we won't see its like again. Picking one would be tricky. I'd probably keep it simple - Elise 240 in Daytona Blue - but for near £50k the allure and greater usability of the base Cayman would be difficult to ignore.

I had my VX220 between Sep 2003 and Nov 2005. Having driven the range last July, I don't actually think the Elise has moved on all that much from the 2003-vintage cars (most of my Elise/Exige test drives were between 2003 and 2008) but the V6 Exiges are a different proposition. All of the Elises/Exiges are better built and have (some) better quality parts which makes them nicer to drive and nicer to be in. But - a Boxster or Cayman is night and day nicer to be in, and has far better primary controls (and control weights) in every area apart from the steering, in my opinion. But (again) - the Elise/Exige steering is much better in terms of feel than the current 718 Caymans and that alone might sell the car to an enthusiast.

Interesting group test in this months EVO, it’s like a Dan’s shortlist comparison..... Exige 410 vs A110 (Pook version) vs GTS 4.0

Mine arrived yesterday and I read the article last night. A good read. The article is penned by Adam Towler, who I have conversed with at some length back in 2018 when I took my GT4 on an evo track day. He's a very decent and knowledgeable fellow.
