It's on the cover of this week's mag that dropped onto my doormat a short while ago (on the correct day too, for a change).
First thought was "at least it doesn't have the HUGE grille" It looks very good, way over my price range (not that I'd have a saloon anyway) but at £146k, somewhat expensive. I'm sure there is a lot of choice of fast vehicles at that price-level

70kgs off a 2 tonne car is such a tiny percentage that it will make no real world difference. All the fancy bucket seats, carbon brakes and sticky tyres in the world will not make a 2 tonne saloon car a viable track car. It'll spend most of its time being reined in by the various stability and traction control systems because you approached a corner too fast for something that weighs as much as a full skip.

Totally pointless, its a blunderbuss to crack an egg but boy does it look good.
Loving the matt green and gold, yes I'm a tart. The seats look about as comfortable as razor blades and the 5 series is massive and probably weighs a ton so its never going to be a track machine but I think it looks ace, apart from the rear diffuser.

Pointless but those that "want" will buy. The Nurburgring outline on the headrests probably indicates the kind of tool this car is aimed at. Looking forward to seeing a few smashed up on You Tube.

Looks great, epic performance, but the M5 and the M5 Comp sound rubbish - so will this be any different ?.

That's a Shmee Mobile. He'll drive it in a straight line down an autobahn, droning on about some inconsequential design features (My bet would be the red inserts in the cabin), get it paint protected, stick it in the multi-storey on a trickle charger and tyre cushions, then sell it.

It really pisses me off that BMW has rediscovered green paint shades at just the time that their styling department has been collectively lobotomised.

Id rather have a delivery miles Comp for 75k and a load left over for a proper weekend fun/track car. Its an M5 at the end of the day, why would you bother going on track with it.

I'd never take mine on a track. It's not that kind of car and is too big, comfortable and expensive to be a serious track car.
I'd have to take issue with Chipbutty though because I think they sound great.

I like the look of it. The grille isn’t hideous, the wheels look superb and the exhaust tips in stainless steel look better than black tips in my view. It is bloody expensive, but expected. The M2 CS commands a similar premium, so did the M3 F80 CS. It’s a shame that the CS range has become significantly more expensive compared to lesser M cars, and so limited in production. The E46 CS wasn’t that much more expensive compared to the standard car, it had subtle upgrades and it was relatively attainable. Now, you pay a significant premium for something that isn’t much lighter, providing you even get to buy one! With UK allocation of the M2 CS so limited, the buyers were chosen based on previous purchase history. For me unless it’s a CSL, the CS cars should be enhanced compared to the Comp cars whilst avoiding OTT tat, and not so limited in production.
I'm surprised that they didn't extract more power for the US market, which isn't affected by particulate filters like boring Europe is.

And that is the point I turn off every video of his that I have ever tried watching.

I haven't heard one in anger in real life (inside or outside) - but they don't make traditional V8 noises. I don't know if BMW have gone with a flat plane crank or the turbos soak up the noise, but it's the same issue with Ferrari V8s and TVRs AJPV8.
Listen to a 308 vs the Thema 8.32 (which uses the 308 engine, but re-engineered with a cross plane crank) to get the idea.
Of course - this is all " Tom-ay-toe / Tom-are-toe "

They use fake sound inside, which may or may not make them sound better. I've not driven one. My 750 sounded great (no fake noise), it was a bit quiet inside but that's how it should be in the type of car.

How a car sounds from the outside isn't as important as how it sounds inside, as you don't really get much benefit, although I did delay closing the door quite often when starting up the 750 to hear the cold start as it always made me smile.
The RR sounds much better inside and on the move, you get a nice V8 growl but it sounds dieselly from the outside albeit with a hint of V8.
