My eldest son has been offered a place a Cambridge University to study Chemical Engineering! He needs two A* and one A, but he’s tracking to three A* so it’s looking very positive. I’m over the moon.

That's excellent. Really well done to him. And for a STEM subject. PS: And let me say as an ex New College, Oxford man, well done to him for getting into one of the better red brick universities.

That's fighting talk, Pete (dons Blues Blazer) You have a blazer? Actually, having visited Cambridge as my niece lives there, I think I'd have been happy to go to either. Cambridge looked a lot more compact and self contained. Like a university with a town around it. Oxford was like a city with a university in it.

At least with Oxford, the train station is just on the outskirts of the city centre. Cambridge is a bit of a 'mare, with a helluva-long walk from the train station to the central area

I'm in the same camp as Garry.
My daughter now has two unconditional offers for University but she is holding out for an offer from St.Andrews. I on the other hand would rather she went to Glasgow or Strathclyde University because if this Covid nonsense lasts for any length of time, she will at least have some kind of life if she can stay at home. I don't want her locked up in halls with Zoom calls for lectures - that's no way to start University life.

I do indeed have such a blazer I'm an Athletics and Cross Country Blue, and Orienteering Half Blue (it was a half blue sport in my day, all the Cambridge team were GB internationals!) Sadly I got injured at the start of the second term in my second year and didn't compete in a Varsity match from then onwards, but I competed in one Varsity match for each of the previous 4 terms, with the score at 2-2 My lot won the Athletics and Orienteering matches but we got battered by the Dark Blues in the Cross Country! I agree about Cambridge vs Oxford from the town/university perspective. Both are lovely cities but Cambridge seems more compact and embedded. I really enjoyed my three years living there.
