Fascinating stuff. I've got a hybrid hip replacement and they use a big reamer drill to open up the socket and press in a new metal socket which has a roughened, specially treated exterior that allows the bone to grow into it, removing the need for screws. Good as new.

Orthopaedic operating list's much more like carpentry with big drills and a heck of a mess.

Nobody I knew could do a full orhtopaedic list like that without a massive headache afterwards. Partially due to the high frequency sound the drills produced.

Don’t watch a hip replacement op on You Tube before you have the surgery. I remember watching an old "Your life in their hands" type programme years ago, where an older chap (70's, maybe older) was in for his second hip replacement. He asked to watch it as it happened, as you do, and the surgeons were quite happy to accommodate him! As he was lying on his side anyway, they khooked up a couple of cameras and a monitor, fella was happy as Larry.
Each to their own I suppose.
