... and won't we be glad to see the back of the old one; although it wasn't actually all that bad for me. We are seeing out the year at my mother's house (support bubble). I am Head Chef, so Beef Wellington was on the menu, washed down with some Chateau Duhart-Milon. Herself prepared some profiteroles to follow. Now taking a break before popping the midnight bubbly. Wishing you all a happy, fulfilling New Year, which is everything you hope it to be.

Well I made a shepherd's pie for our new year meal as a way of getting through some of the leftover spuds from last week. Not as gastronomic as a Wellington but went down well all the same with empty plates all round.
Happy new year everyone. Not going to pretend it will start off any better than last year but here's hoping for some better news to start appearing as we go into spring.

Happy New Year!
The Beef Wellington looks great, one of my favourite things to eat when done well.

Happy New Year! The Beef Wellington looks great, one of my favourite things to eat when done well.I'm assuming you mean the quality of the prep and cooking, rather than how well done the actual beef is..... We didn't have beef Wellington but we went all Jeremy Clarkson and had steak (blue for me, rare for Mrs PG) and chips with Diane sauce, washed down by a Chateauneuf-du-pape. Scrummy. Happy New Year everyone.

That looks delicious. My wife refuses to nest anything pink like that so sadly not something that will ever get made in our household.

For the past 4 days, I've existed on lunch consisting of half a pork pie and a couple of dollops of coleslaw, all bought at the start of the week, reduced. Each pork pie was half price, 50p instead of £1 at Poundland, and the tub of coleslaw was reduced to 30-something pence in Sainsburys as it was close to its best-before date.
Maybe I should consider going begging ?

I think you can do better than that mate, cheer up, this year has only just started. My neighbour is in hospital, she is having chest pains and a whole host of nasty symptoms and is looking at a probable move to a nursing home. Her time has been limited to her home and hospital for more than a year with me the only regular visitor, talk about unlucky.
How about picking some realistic goals and going for it? What do you have to lose?

Happy new year everyone. That Welly looks ace. The missus does a mean Wellington but I’ve band it from the menu as she only does it when we have visitors which means I get the end slice which just isn’t the same.
Only other insistence is mushroom over pate and avoid the pancake if you can.

Happy New Year and good riddance to 2020, which served us a final hurrah in the form of a less than vintage Christmas featuring a Covid test for Mini Eff. She tested negative but still isn't 100%. Fuck knows how she caught whatever bug it is, we haven't been anywhere or seen anyone.
But we did get thoroughly plastered on good South African bubbly with some old friends (over Zoom) last night, and blew away the cobwebs with a 7km run through winter wonderland today.

Happy New Year all. I have high hopes for 2021, it can only get better. The beef looks lovely; the lack of restaurant visits, and my failure to cook has led to me largely sharing my other half's vegetarian lifestyle this last few months.

Happy New Year all.
We had cabbage soup on NYE and today is no fowl day so smoked salmon, Russian potato salad and schnitzels were the order of the day.
On reflection 2020 wasn’t as bad as other years: one year I was divorced, once I was run over by a lorry, one year my father died, several years I was excessively in debt and once I spent Christmas Day and Boxing Day snowed in in a Scottish holiday cottage with no electricity followed by NYE in an hotel that was part flooded due to the ensuing thaw revealing a burst water pipe.
2021 - do your worst!

Steak, truffle chips, and a box of Peroni for me.
Must admit dry January is dragging a bit.

Must admit dry January is dragging a bit. Not even going to attempt it. In a parallel universe, I'm on my way to Champoluc for a week's skiing. There are sorrows to be drowned.

My daughter passed her test less than 3 months after turning 17 and just before Christmas and the second lockdown so I took her out on New Year's Day to some snowy and icy local B roads to get some experience of difficult conditions. She managed pretty well and was quick with the opposite lock so whilst not entirely relaxed with her going out on her own, I am getting a bit more comfortable with it.

Do you not have to go into quarantine for 10 days when you get there, making the skiing impossible? The travel ban and the fact that the lifts are shut would be a bit of a blocker too... I meant a pandemic-free parallel universe in which I still have a job.

Happy New Year. I was working. 2021 isn't going to be vastly different to 2020 until the summer at least, I don't think.

My daughter went back to school today (tier 4) but I'm not overly comfortable sending her in. I wouldn't be surprised if BoJo does an about turn and closes the schools in his announcement tonight, but either way it won't be long. This time next week at the latest.

I think that decision is inevitable. Evan starts back tomorrow. As a keyworkers' child he has a place in school. For now!

We're in lockdown in the busiest month of the year for me. I'll be coming in to the office every day regardless on the grounds that we are essential, doing payroll for 2,000 and Tax Returns where HMRC have said the deadline will not be extended - they might look on penalty appeals favourably if you can prove the delay was caused by Covid but their idea of reasonable excuse and that held by the reasonable man, are somewhat different.
