I have a client who recently bought his wife a new 4 Series Cabrio. She really liked the look of the 4 Series Coupe and when she saw a Cabrio in the showroom she fell in love with it.
Now the problem!
She thought they had ordered her the wrong car when she saw it. She really didn't like the way it looked - that wasn't what I ordered!
The issue is that she had never seen a Cabrio with the roof up and the roof line at the back is very different.
My client has steam coming out his ears, his wife thinks it is everyone else's fault and the dealer is trying to work some deal on a stock 6 Cabrio. Wife has now announced she likes the new E Class Cabrio and I think the husband is either going to top himself or do her great harm (in jest of course)!
Glad it's not me.

So, the kind of person who sees an expensive car and says, "I want that" and hubby buys it and when she gets it she throws a strop? She/they sound delightful.

He is a nice guy and quite "normal" and works really hard. She on the other hand is fairly demanding and believes that she should basically get what she wants because she has brought up his two children (forgetting that they are hers as well). She is a good looking woman who (in my opinion) married because of her husband's successful business and the wealth it could bring. He was no doubt seduced by the long legs, blond hair and attention she gave him - all of that is now a distant 20+ year memory.
I think he phoned me out of the forlorn hope that I might think of a solution - he needed to share the pain.
It is looking likely that the 6 series will get the nod because of the spectacular deal the dealer has come up with - the extra he will have to pay is nowhere near the difference in even the discounted prices of the two cars, so it might be a happy(ish) ending for spoilt wifey!

Maybe, except isn't the sheer size of the 6 likely to cause her issues......
She'll struggle to park it outside her favourite nail salon.

Perhaps but the way my client is feeling she is lucky he hasn't parked it somewhere very painful. I spoke to him 5 minutes ago and get the feeling that the shock is wearing off and the anger is beginning to take over.

I remember when I worked at MINI, the day I started I was taken to a huge house to pick up a MINI that we had just bought.
Apparently a few weeks prior, a guy in an Overfinch Range Rover rocked up, said he had bought his wife the RR but she couldn't get on with it and she now wanted a MINI as it would be easier to drive and park, she told him what she wanted so he went out to get it and we had it in stock, he took it home to her a few days later where she declared she hated it.
She never used it and decided the RR wasn't so bad, we bought the MINI back from him two weeks later.

I do wonder if that oft dreamt of lottery win might just cause issues like this in our house. That being the case, I don't want a big lottery win.

Man buys wife expensive car expecting to score big. Wife hates car. Is all man's fault. Man in shit. Man expected to deliver instant solution.
A story I am sure that is repeated very often across the land......

Is all man's fault. Man in shit. This is the key bit. Doesn't matter if it's a car or anything else.

My ex wife wanted a car but would not listen to me. She bought a car from one of her fathers friends in the funny handshake club, friend says never mind the noise from the front nearside it just needs the brakes adjusted. I said no it's more than that. Ex say's she wants the brakes adjusted then she will buy the car. Turns out the wheel bearing is knackered but she already has the car. I say get it fixed by the selling garage but she pays anyway as it is a friend of the old man (Used to be a grand wizard but of what exactly I am suspicious). Ex say's she will have to drive my car (Bess) and I say no chance. Matrimonial bliss in a nutshell, I think.

I was the lucky third party in a similar spat. A couple had a 3 series convertible and whilst in a Mercedes showroom the wife announced that she loved the convertible in the showroom (an SL). A car was then ordered to spec on the husbands chequebook. When it arrived the wife realised that their 2 teenage kids would not fit in the rear. Husband is now in the shit! By then the showroom had a CLK convertible on display...perfect!! Except she really wanted it in the same colour as the SL. "It's a brand new model which is in great demand, it will be at least a six month wait mam". Husband is deeper in the shit! Oh by the way, husband had sold the 3 series already....oops! Luckily little old me had a car in the right colour up for sale. Their marriage was saved and I made 30% profit

I'd offer her the 4 series or if she didn't want that then she can have a new Aygo, she'll soon agree to the former. She does have a point that the 4 series cabrio and the 3 before look shit.

It cheaper than a divorce and gives her lots to boast to her friends about.

Divorce might be cheaper - I'd be livid but then I wouldn't buy a £40K+ car on the basis of the one in the showroom looking nice. Years ago a friend of mine bought his wife a Toyota MR2 (the original little one) after she had been banging on for years how she loved them - when she sat in it, she declared she didn't like the driving position and wouldn't use it. He sold it at a small loss (it was used) and told her to buy her own cars from then on. Mrs. GBB has zero interest in cars and I make all the decisions (other than her first car, I thought she wanted the Metro we looked at but it turned out she only said that as she didn't care and didn't want to see any more cars). Since then she's had a Renault 5 (my Gran's, bought as it was cheap to us), Ford Escort, Honda FRV and MINI. The only one she'd driven before purchase was the FRV. She might care about colour and looks a bit but not too much. Her only complaint is that she doesn't like big automatics, so hasn't driven the BMW's or Mercedes I've owned.

Mrs Tim was saying this morning that people at her work ask her what my car is and can't get their head round the idea that they're our cars - we both like the same stuff.

We're the same thankfully.
Lindsay likes cars and enjoys driving, so even shows interest way ahead of the time a decision is required. She prefers manuals, but is fine with the 535d, although ideally it would be 3 Series size but she didn't like it as much in a number of areas. She loves driving the Boxster and drives it properly regularly, she doesn't just cruise around in it, which is good as sit means she OK with me driving quickly.
