Last weekend I did the brakes and the central locking set is on the Lexus. It’s now 20 years old and has 276,000 miles on it, is smoking a little on start up but owes me nothing. Yesterday I did the front brakes on the X5. It was a tougher repair than the Lexus, mainly due to the torque that had been applied on the various nuts, meaning I needed a breaker bar just to remove the front wheels. Today, I woke up in agony. Sore muscles all over my body. Even my legs, which is surprising as I can run and do run 5 k a number of times a week. My chest is killing me. I think part of the reason is the torque and also the weight of the wheels. 20” x 8” run flats have a lot of unsprung weight.
Anyway, I’m sitting in the living room now feeling like I completed an Ironman while carrying an extra 50lbs on my back. Probably covid? 😜

Yes, I feel the effects of a day working on cars. I sometimes think I'm getting too old for this shit, but I do actually like getting my hands dirty and fixing things myself.

I fixed my lawnmower a few months back, replacing the throttle cable. The sense of accomplishment made me more unbearable than usual.

I replaced all the vacuum lines on my car with silicon items today, chasing an unkown fault that limits boost at full throttle, masquerading as an EGR issue. It isn't the EGR, I removed it and tested it recently.
I still feel like I've done an Ironman, but that's because I spent all Saturday digging a massive chasm in my back garden.

Have you checked the filter? My Alpina did this and it transpired the air filter had never been replaced despite a full BMW service history.

I fitted a K&N filter less than a week ago.

^ Has what you have done fixed the issue, or don't you know yet?
Who's the dug chasm for?? An old window frame or The Donald, or someone/something else??

I spent all weekend tidying the garage including removing a wooden bench that was bolted to the wall and removing about 100 screws that the previous owner had put into the walls (some appeared to have been cemented in!). I feel like I was in a fight with Mike Tyson!!

We have a loft space above our adjoining garage so I've spent 3 days clearing out all the crap and boarding it out, adding shelving units to increase capacity. Actually, I started clearing it out a couple of weeks ago and selling stuff on gumtree and ebay - stuff I'd never thought would bring money; this is going to sound like the Generation Game: 2 old golf bags, lawnmower, leaf blower, 2 tyres, dog pen, bath spa, wet and dry vac, and, best of all, some Man Utd shirts from the 90s that people are bidding crazy money on. It's paid for all the raw materials and then some. Bit sore today but I'm thinking of starting on the basement next. I don't actually have a basement but I was reading about this Austrian fella on the internet and he did a cracking job a few years ago so that's inspired me.

The issue is still there, which I suspected it would be. No big issue as the vac lines were degraded and needed changing anyway. Luckily I have an ex-BMW tech working for me, so he knows the tricks and traps. Next port of call is the boost pressure sensor - it's making boost, just not as much as it should on kickdown (24psi apparently). The turbo is only 6 months old and can be heard whooshing, so that's not the issue and if it is, it has a 2 year warranty.
The chasm is the result of a sinkhole that appeared in my garden a few weeks back. Started off the size of a dinner plate, grew to about 4 feet in diameter and then stopped. I've had to dig down and around until I reached more substantial ground. It's now about 10 feet long, 5 feet wide and 4 feet deep. Thankfully, I have all the rubble left over from removing the window, plus some hardcore left over from a path renovation, which has all been thrown in ready for a good old sludge of cement over the top.

I had to remove the tree and the climber next to the fence to complete the hole. I was half dead by Saturday evening.

Is that a drain or sewer collapse?

No drains or sewers. My first port of call was United Utilities who informed me that all water (fresh and waste) runs under the road at the front of all the houses. Obviously not mixed together...

Glad it's not just me that feels knackered doing car related work (or other "manual labour")! I count even hand-washing both the cars as reasonable exercise, and whenever I change the wheels over I feel it. The worst recently was when I built a big metal Asgard bike shelter in the garden, mostly by myself - all the holding big sheets of steel in place while trying to get the screws in, then I moved the completed thing about a bit to get it totally flat (it weighs two of me). I felt that for days!!!
