Well I picked Bess up this afternoon and surprise, not washed.
Idle is much faster than before and pick up from low speed something of a trial, very irregular and a certain amount of hesitation before taking off like a scalded type 3 feline.
I think to a certain degree she needs a good run but the fuel gauge is no longer reading above half full after brimming. I know every sound that Bess made before but she is definitely more shouty/growly now.
I came away with a bill just on £500 but have to concede that sitting in the garage for nigh on six weeks will take its toll. In have decided to bite the bullet and take a run somewhere if I can find somewhere to go and see how things are after that. Perhaps a bit of adjustment afterwards.

You'll get a faster idle either because the mixture is too weak (never a smooth idle though) or they have just turned the tickover screw up too much. Poor pickup could again be too weak a mixture, the carbs may not be balances or the pump jet isn't big enough. If you go on a decent run, have a look at the colour of the inside of the tailpipe afterwards. White/light is too weak, black too rich and a nice mid brown/grey colour just about right.

Did they ask you to go back after a few hundred miles so they could check that things were bedding in correctly?

^ no but I intend to report what I have found and get an adjustment if needed. I think it will be tbh. They wanted no more than take my dosh and get me out of the door yesterday, it was manic.
