The only options I'd consider are the carbon seats and brakes, which are probably overkill unless they bring a weight reduction. But I'd rather have an M2. I can’t imagine there are any circumstances where the weight savings from the seats will be noticeable in a 1800kg car. The M2 is the new M3.

I presume the 1730kg is the 4WD Competition version? It would be interesting to see what the RWD manual version weighs. Whatever the case, 1730kg is surely too flabby for an M3. I don't entirely blame them, because the tech, safety and WTLP needed all adds up.
Even without the grille, I think the G80 will alienate certain customers. They have a great opportunity with the M2, and offering it in different bodystyles would be good. Audi and Merc do it with the RS3 and CLA45 respectively. Manual takeup for the M2 was higher than it was with the M3/M4, so hopefully the UK gets a manual option.
If you did want a fast 4WD BMW, why not buy something like John's M5? Massively better looking, you get a V8, sounds much better, and a lot cheaper second hand now. If one looks at the prices of some of the M3 option packs, and the M Performance bits, you would be close to new M5 territory if you wanted new.

I've never particularly liked this generation of 3-series either but it must be said it is so much less hideous than the new 4/M3/M4 ugly sisterhood.
In principle, one of these should be ideal. In practice, I'm still thinking that something with better ground clearance would be more useful. Albeit that at least this has 4wd.

There is absolutely no way that I would ever consider changing my M3 for one of these in any flavour.

The more I look at these the more I want one in M3 flavour Mind you, I liked the Alfa SZ when it first came out so maybe I've had a long-standing eyesight condition? Having now watched the Carwow video, the M3 is growing on me, too. Like a wart, maybe?

I can never decide whether that Carwow guy really annoys me or not. He's definitely close to being mega-annoying.

I can never decide whether that Carwow guy really annoys me or not. He's definitely close to being mega-annoying. There are a number of car channels on YouTube where I could say that about the presenters. Most are borderline tolerable.

He makes up for it by being funny. I've watched so many now that it doesn't bother me. The ones with Yianni in are usually hilarious.

I received this in an e-mail from BMW today. I would like to know who wrote the first sentence.
"The 4 truly is a beauty to behold. And on the road, it speaks for itself. With launch day imminent, we want to make sure that you get the chance to drive it. Reserve a test drive with your preferred BMW Centre today"

Can only be either the person who designed it or whoever signed it off.
