Thought it would be worth sharing some good news here, mainly because we could all do with getting some.
Opened the post at the weekend and there was a letter from my mortgage company. I opened it, expecting it to be another bill, but there was a refund cheque for almost $3000! We only bought our house last year and they overestimated the escrow payments- it’s an account tied into the mortgage that taxes and insurance get paid from- and we overpaid by the amount above.
And in more news, a friend moved abroad and sold her house. We offered to help clear out her house as she’s needing help and she gave us her tv. I picked it up this evening and it’s a brand new, Samsung UHD 50”, only slightly bigger than our current tv, but 1080 to UHD is as big a jump as CRT to LED.
Anyone else have good news to share?

Sadly not, although being covid-free, still being in paid employment and managing to be on holiday appears to be "as good as it gets" at the moment.
Just hope I can get back to Blighty ok on Friday.
Plenty of bad news to report but I don't want to disclose it here

Your good news is indeed good, about time really.
Bess is in to the garage, hoping for good news and perhaps new carbs which will make hills easier than they are currently.

My daughter got her gcse results - Grade 9 in five subjects, grade 8 in the rest. I’m very proud. She’s worked incredibly hard for them.

Drove to Blackburn and back yesterday in the Ovlov. Not only did I sign a decent deal which has been going on for nearly a year due to Covid but was also returned 35mpg.

Good news: One son got A*s is his A levels. Bad news: doesn't want to go to University. Good news: two sons (including the above mentioned who does loads of graphic IT stuff) are going to Art school.
Good news: I have an online interview tomorrow. Bad news: having had 27 days away on holiday in the past 5 weeks not sure I'll be in the right frame of mind. Good news: still employed where I am and still would be retained if I leave permanently. (I really like this organisation)

Sorry "would be retained if I leave permanently". I'm still in getting over being asked if I want the "aircon regassed" and mentioning that Bess does not have a heater let alone aircon, mode, and then having the question repeated.
I pointed out that if the mechanics feel the need to cut the door seals to fit they should just not bother and leave the seals as they are only to be told, "They'll call you and talk through options". Even now I am not sure she got the message.

Some more good news - an elderly member of the VSCC is giving up on DIY spannering and has offered, free of charge, four axle stands, a decent trolley jack and a mechanics creeper. All in new or nearly new condition. I was first to take up the offer, so it will will help with the next job which is replace the rear leaf springs on the Standard.

Had a pension review the other day (60th birthday looming) and where I thought I had one fund, I actually have two of almost the same value! - not worth a fortune but enough to be a very pleasant surprise.
