Does anyone know if I can buy and register a car in my daughter's name before she is 17 (we are only talking a couple of weeks beforehand)
I really don't want to register it in my name and then have to transfer it to her with another change of keeper being registered.

Just do it online, no signatures needed, or if its from a dealer you tell them what name to put on the logbook.
As far as I know you can buy a car at whatever age you like, you just can't drive it.

Perfect, thanks Mark. I'm going to look at a Mini One in Peterborough after I see a client in Nottingham and am taking an extra body in case we buy it: I will then have to drive 300 miles home in a 1.2 litre manual with none of the toys!

Yes, my Nephew had a car a few weeks before his 17th and it was registered in his name.
He bought a £2k Corsa which hasn’t proved to be the best buy, it’s had all sorts of problems so he’s chopped it in for a decent spec (nice wheels, panoramic roof, air con etc) 67 plate Ibiza. Not bad 8 months after he was 17 and he’s funded it himself as he’s been working full time for a year and has kept his evening/weekend bar job on as well.

After being banned for 6 months for what he called a minor speeding indiscretion in his RS6, he sold it and then bought an S5 coupe which he has just sold and bought a JCW with all the toys - he loves it and says looking back, he has wasted a fortune on expensive cars that didn't go much faster and put less of a smile on his face...……..so you never know!

I have to say I don't think I've enjoyed any car as much as my 2003 MINI Cooper. Even going out for a pint of milk was fun.
