We handed the keys of the X4 over to Harry Fairbairn yesterday and will get a small cheque in return. I took the car over on Saturday to let them see it and they gave me an offer which cleared the finance and gave us something back so there seemed no point in keeping it just for me to use occasionally over the next couple of months to keep the M5 mileage down. It's been a great car over about 24,000 miles with a few trips south when it was a very comfortable and economical companion. 5.6s to 60 also allowed it to show a surprisingly large number of cars a clean pair of heals and over its time with us it has averaged 32.9 mpg which includes the daily school run and plenty of 2 to 4 mile trips to the supermarket etc.

You've managed to put a picture up of its least unattractive view, well done!

You've managed to put a picture up of its least unattractive view, well done! I didn't think that anyone liked the look of it from any angle. I have some others if you want but I thought one was perhaps sufficient. Which angle do you prefer Tim?

The X3 is the one to have then as it will have all the positive qualities and looks a lot better.

What engine was in that X4? 3.0D which on the road is way faster than anything that size deserves to be - but it also handled really well and had great grip.

Do you have any photos of it taken at night in a windlowless garage and with the flash switched off?

In Black it covers a lot of the design challenges, no doubt its a good car with that engine but what is the ride like, did it have RFTs?

I changed them to Bridgestone S001 runflats and it was a transformation. However the Jag's ride is as big a transformation again. On the S001's the ride was as good as anything with 20' wheels and 40 profile tyres.

Although I may get flamed for saying this, I don't find the X4 as dangerous to the eyes as many other seem to. At least the grille is a sensible size, you have to give it that. Interesting that Bridgestone RFLs were so superior to the Pirelli ones.

It's not the worst looking car on earth. I have always thought of these as the hatchback of SUVs compared to the regular X3 which is the estate body style. It's still far more practical than a saloon.

The 7 series had S001’s and I was very happy with them, but did sometimes wonder what it would ride like on a decent non RFT, as it was hard to imagine it being much better.

Well it's bigger yes, but compared to the really news ones, still on the "smaller" end of the scale. And it still has the body coloured panel in the middle that breaks it up. Although I'm sure they'll deal wit that in the next facelift / new model, which will awful I expect.

Fucker never once indicated either! And that's coming from an Audi driver!

I always indicate correctly. I'd not moan about others if I were doing the same. Ha! Next you'll be telling us that you don't tailgate at a distance of 2 inches? You can't really call yourself a proper Audi driver if you fail to do that

Good to hear you liked the tyres of my ultimate employer so much...
I've never driven a car with the "3.0d" BMW 6 but they seem the sweet spot of the range in many ways. 330d Tourings were always great value whenever I've looked into leasing a car, presumably they hold value well and they must be pretty swift, enough for most of us almost all the time I suspect.
You probably don't want to know what angle I think it needs to be pictured from - it involves darkness, distance, it having been recycled into a cube of metal, and something large in the way.....
