Elder daughter has decided that now she has 2 children, Boris the Auris isn't large enough as a double push-chair fills the boot on its own. Suggestion/discussion results in the fact that a medium-sized estate car would be a better choine of transport and as she's been happy with the Toyota, what about sticking with the brand? Well problem is that an Auris estate is a bit too expensive (ideally she's looking at £6k, maybe £7k including trade-in of Boris, a 10-plate Auris 1.33 TR). But try finding a decent, mid-sized estate with a petrol engine and manual transmission - hardly anything about.
Auris, Avensis, Focus, i30, Octavia (avoiding Astras as for the age/price, there seem to be a number of problems reported) - almost all medium estates for sale are diesels.
Any other suggestions? (we don't think MPV's will have the loadbay area required, ie ruled out a C-Max already)

Go a size up. More depreciation better value.
Mondeo, Insignia, Octavia etc.
Or a Grande medium people carrier with the 2 rearmost seats down.

C Max?
I'd avoid the Astra (the one prior to the current, new one) as it is shite.
Going up to something like a Mondeo might be a good idea but in terms of size it is a huge step. I presume she has made no noise about having an Audi yet?
Citroen Picasso? Cashcow?

Insignias are plentiful and not expensive. Although it would need a decent power output. Mazda 6 a good shout. What about a CX3?
