Been on uncle day care duty this morning with my 6yr old niece and 4yr old nephew. After the joys of playing in the garden with sprinklers and trampolines wore off (it was also eventually too hot in the sun for them), I remembered that somewhere in my mother’s garage was must be a box of my old toy cars, so we went searching, eventually dug them out and added them to their existing pile. Much excitement. Duly pronounced way cooler than their existing modern toy cars!! Can you identify all of them?

Most I think. The BMW 325i was very easy I'm impressed that the ones with trailers still have those attached. I'm not sure I managed that apart from the trucks that I had.

Great collection! Are some of those SIKU? They used to be excellent quality, I always used my holiday money to buy them when we were in France/Switzerland/Italy, but I saw some new ones a while back and they were terrible quality.

I think mostly Matchbox, Corgi and Majorette (which were widely available in Italy where I lived as a small boy). Possibly some Siku.

Sadly, none of my Matchbox cars survived my pyrotechnic tendencies as a youngster, although I have no clue what happened to all the Maisto and BBurago models I save up my paper round money to buy. I don't recall taking them to university with me and certainly don't remember them being there when I came home. Maybe I gave them away with my Lego Technic to my young nephew at the time. (Still regretting that, Lego is comically priced nowadays)

I had many more than this once upon a time - these are just the survivors. Probably Mum gave some of them away at some point. There are a couple of Lesney ones that must have been already old when I was my nephew's age.

I have no idea where my model cars ended up, or the 40+ Airfix planes I and my dad built over the years. The ships were blasted with a Webley .177, and my four Tamiya F1 cars (complete with display case) was in the loft of my parents house when we sold it 10 years ago - a fact I only remembered a few years later and sadly too late to reclaim by then.

I found my collection of cars when we cleared out my parents' house. My nephews had all played with them at my parents since I long left the house. Whilst they had some fond memories for me, I didn't really want them, so I sold those with any value through a toy auction house. The individual ones were mostly Corgi, so any good condition Corgi ones are worth looking after. I also sold a Matchbox construction set.

Back in the early 70s you got a free Matchbox toy car with a certain number of gallons of National petrol. I seem to remember me and my brother getting one every time mum or dad filled up so I had dozens. Add in the yellow plastic Supertrack and I would spend all days rigging up loops and jumps down the stairs, between rooms and stuff. I have no idea where they all went, probably to younger kids and charity shops.

I have a lot of those same toys. I’d the E36 one with a folding roof? I have the same but mine was red. Most of mine are matchbox but I’ve got a load of Majorrette and Siku, too. I’ll have to see if they’re still at the parents house. Many of mine were ‘enhanced’ after I got given a box of Graphic Traffic from Matchbox which was essentially a set of permanent markers and white cars so you could colour them in. I ended up colouring in most of them.

Most of my toy cars were given to the local children's ward of the hospital when you were still allowed to do so.

Someday I’ll dig out a photo of my late stepfather’s Dinky collection. I enjoyed playing with them as a boy - all ‘50s and ‘60s cars with multiple models by colour of each one. In 1980 they were sold to fund a house purchase in New Jersey without the need to sell the house in Hampshire (they were worth a lot then - imagine now!). I was DEVASTATED - more so as the English house was sold in ‘85 to release capital for another purchase. Still better to have played with them than never to have had them at all.
I’ll add: I never damaged any of my toys and still get irate at my kids’ handling of their toys. You’re all heathens of the toy world!

Somewhere I have a small box of my "best" old toy cars. Not sure if it's in my loft somewhere or my mum's shed

My gran had a selection of old Dinky stuff - mainly WW2 army trucks and the like. I think they must've been my uncle's when he was little. No idea what happened to them. They had real rubber wheels and the canopy on the back of the pickup style troop trucks was detachable and made from folded tin I bet they were worth a few quid even though I played with them a lot whenever we visited.

My Dad had a great selection of toy cars and looked after them really well, apparently they were immaculate and all in their original boxes. He's still annoyed that his Dad gave them all away when he left home and they had a big clear out without giving him the chance to keep anything.
My old toy cars are still in the same plastic storage boxes I kept them in as a kid (small ones with their own compartment) and they're still in good condition despite being played with by my Nephews.

I was keeping mine for a day when I might have my own children, but decided it was time to pass them on to my nephew and niece, since they seem to love playing with toy cars - we gave them that carpark-type ramp thing for Christmas two years ago and it's a favourite plaything.
And if that sounds like tempting fate, then bring it on!!

I still have a sizeable collection of diecast models in the loft here, in their boxes - the Minichamps-type variety. Those are firmly tucked away, save for a few on display in my study. There must be well over 50 of them.

My friend's bedroom was in a large loft conversion where he had half the space and his dad's extensive model railway and toy car collection was set up and stored, neither of which he was allowed to play with. Even at the time I thought this very cruel.

I've got a a small number in boxes in my parents house (top of the wardrobe away from kids!), it's only 26 years since I lived there..... I only have a couple of models at home; a red Boxster 987, red 1970 Midget (looks identical to the Sprite I had), an Emirates A380 (used about to expire points and we have flown on them 16 times) and a couple of lorries, one with Homebase livery and the other XPO. They will be joined by a 1/18th scale Byron Blue RR Autobiography in a couple of weeks.

Did anyone have one of those US style fire engines with the telescopic ladders on the back? Nearly burnt the house down playing with that.

That is a very good collection, it's a shame they're all hidden away. You should get them all out while your wife is away and send her a picture of the improvements you've made to the house....

On the shelves in the study I’m only allowed the Spider and three “Rari-cars” (as my 3yr old nephew calls Ferraris), along with an old photo of me in the first Z1. On my desk I also have a 1/43 models of a carbon black 435iGC and a burgundy Maserati GranSport Cabrio (as my latest motoring crush after my trip to Monza last year).

Although I'd lost the figures and the final lift was not working, so at the auction it was nothing like as valuable as good ones fetch.
