I think I've got the full model name..... Pretty much brand new, it's done 130 miles and it's been driven nearly 60 miles to my house this morning.
So, as it turns out, the dealership did have a service department loan car so I haven't got something from the demo fleet. Not exactly a suitable replacement, but I don't need to go far and thankfully don't have to move the whole family around for the next 2 days so it's not a problem. I was hoping for something bigger though as I've been putting off going to the tip until today so I didn't have to use my car!
I've only moved it from the side of the road outside the house onto the drive, so can't tell you how it drives. Standard spec seems OK (leather, memory seats, cruise etc) and this one has a few extras which having just had a quick look at the configurator are: Corris grey metallic, black exterior pack, 20" gloss black wheels, panoramic roof, privacy glass, heated wheel, interactive driver display and drive pro pack (voodoo cruise, lane assist). That takes the list price to £46,355, or £41k after discount, which is over £5k more than the Golf cost after discount.
First impressions. It feels quite small even compared to the Golf, which is due to the seat being quite high on the lowest setting so I feel like my head is quite close to the roof. The seats are supportive but the backrest is flat/very firm and the grained leather isn't particularly nice even compared to the Golf. Strange that the interactive driver display, despite being a £520 option, isn't really configurable. You can have 2 dials or a full map and the dials change colour with the drive modes, but that's it. The Nav screen/software is the same as mine, but it doesn't have the lower screen which I'm surprised to say that I've found really useful. When you press the dial to get to the seat heating/cooling, it tempts you with both blue and red arrows, but it doesn't have cooled seats. Interior quality is on a par with the F Pace, but more acceptable at this price.
I'll still go to the tip later, but I'm going to need two trips.

My B-i-L recently got an E Pace. Couldn't even begin to describe the spec or model but he seems to like it. All I know is that it's metallic red and replaced a Merc GLA.
In Wiltshire you have to book online to go to the tip. You have to open a council account then book a slot which can be up to a week later. The electricals that I was going to recycle all went in the black wheelie bin instead!

It got more than 80% of what I wanted to take to the tip, so only been out in it once. I did come home the long way though to take in a dual carriageway, A road and B Road, 4 miles there / over 20 miles back.
I'm surprised, but the only deal breakers are the hard seat backrest and engine. The ride is really firm around town, but it doesn't have adaptive dampers and the tyre pressures are set to full load which means they've got about 20% higher pressure at the front and 30% at the back which won't be helping. The ride improves when the speed increases so I'm fairly sure it is the tyre pressures at fault, it's still fairly firm but not uncomfortable. It feels like a bigger / heavier car than it is, but I've just had a look at the kerb weight and it's heavier than the 750i....that's just ridiculous and explains why despite having 180hp it feels slow (0-60 is 8.6 but I think that's a fib). It feels very nippy up to about 35mph, but that's due to the overly sensitive throttle, which does nothing more after about 1/3rd travel. It's the only car I've driven which I've felt the need to put it into Eco to calm the throttle down a bit in traffic and it's not good for reversing either. Noisy engine too, I'm sure it would be much better with the 300hp petrol engine.
Some good bits. The steering, not much feel but the weighting and ratio is good. Handling is also OK, not fun in any way, but it's easy to place and there's minimal body roll so you can push it along a B Road and the ride improves the faster you go. Similar leg/headroom as the Golf so fine for a small family and it's got a bigger boot with storage underneath and more space than you'd expect with the seats folded. It's a strange mix of more premium feeling parts (boot carpet is a highlight!) and very cheap feeling hard plastics like the area below the instruments.
I was expecting to hate it, so maybe it's due to my level of expectation, but I actually think it's OK. One to buy used though, as it's too expensive, I don't know why anyone wouldn't buy a new one rather than just spend a small amount more and get an Evoque. Or a Golf R which is on a completely different level.

Much as I hate to big up a Rangie, the Evoque interior seems to be bounds ahead of the one in this car. I am just going off pictures, though...

Terry from France will be arriving shortly to tidy the house up It's going on a new platform as well isn't it, which I assume is the same as the latest Evoque?

Do these things sell in meaningful numbers? I hardly ever see them but Evoques are everywhere.

Do these things sell in meaningful numbers? I hardly ever see them but Evoques are everywhere. Apparently so, it is/was Jaguars best selling model! This is April 18 to Mar 19: Jaguar sold 11,142 E-Pace compact SUVs last year, taking over from the F-Pace large SUV as the firm’s most popular car. The all-electric (and European Car of the Year-winning) I-Pace also did reasonably well, selling 1,760 units in just over half a year.
A total of 38,604 new Jaguars were sold last year, and Glover is hopeful of more success this year, with the launch of the much-imported Jaguar XE looking to snare more sales from tax-conscious company car drivers.

How can it weigh more than a 750i? That's preposterous!?

No idea - but I would guess that Monsieur Le Restructure hasn't been brought in to shake everyone's hand, say everything is tres bon and then go hide in his office.

How can it weigh more than a 750i? That's preposterous!? The 750i is relatively light thanks to the carbon core and extensive use of aluminium, it's lighter than 3.0 diesel 5 series. The Evoque is a similar weight to the E-Pace unsurprisingly, the lightest one is just under 1,800kg and the new hybrid is 2,160kg! A 3.0 diesel FFRR is 2,250kg.

That's insane. Accordingly to Parkers our BMW weighs 1620kg and our Fiat weighs 930kg, meaning that a hybrid Evoque weighs nearly 2/3rds of a Fiat 500 more than my car!

I've had a sit in the new one. Mine has a rather dated interior because it's basically a 2012 (?) car with a bit of a refresh on the outside, but the new one felt much cheaper inside. Lots of plastic which was hard, scratchy stuff and nothing extra over a base model Q3 that makes you feel like the extra cash was worth spending. You do get 400 ponies, though, I suppose. Try finding those in an E-Pace or Ewok. Carwow have been featuring the RS in a lot of vids recently because they have a long termer, but I'm sure it's not as manic as the old one. It even gets whipped by a T-Roc R in one video!

I am always impressed by how deeply you delve into the spec and price of even a loan car! 2 trips to the tip? Luxury. I've been twice in the last week and I'm not allowed any more. It's two trips per two weeks. And I needed to set up an online account. And I had to book time slots. And, when I got there it turned out that half the recyclable stuff isn't being recycled currently so, despite having sorted it, loads of recyclable stuff went into the landfill skip. And I got proper shirty with the staff because of this.

So you've been driving round in the BUF today ?? I'm not overly good at remembering numberplates but my mum had a mkIII Cortina GT in some bright yellow colour with the 'plate BUF 59L. That car was jinxed. If she wasn't crashing it into something, someone else was crashing into it!

She didn’t change because of the interior, it was because of the way it drives. I’ve only been in it for a short journey but she says it’s uncomfortable, noisy and she doesn’t like the gearbox. She’s happier with the T Roc and im sure the 330e will feel great when it arrives compared to the two.

Re the tip. It was heaving, only just made it in as there’s someone stopping people queuing on the road (which is right). Less cars can be parked at once due to the new spacing but the queue moved fairly quickly. It took about 25mins in total which isn’t too bad. No restrictions on visits.
Spec research. I just find it interesting and like to know what I’ve got.

There a few E-Paces around where we live, including an orange one with black wheels that looks surprisingly good as I've always thought it a bit of dumpy looking thing. That being said, when we were looking to replace our last Qashqai we looked at the E-Pace and really couldn't see the value over and above the new Qashqai we eventually bought. There was a better choice of more powerful engines but overall quality and technology didn't justify the huge price difference.

Good write up.
I'm astounded at the service dept loan car being a £46k option equipped thing rather than the cheapest shopping hatch sold in that dealer group.

Ah ok.
The garage I worked at leased 4 Skoda Citigos at something like £120 per month as courtesy cars. We initially sold Subaru, Ssangyong and eventually Mitsubishi at which point the loaners became the, er, small Mitsi hatch the name of which escapes me!

You can imagine what I'd have said if they had left me a Citigo..... I only needed 3 x loan cars from Bedford BMW and they had a policy of not giving 7 series customers one of their service department cars, only a demonstrator, so I had 2 x X5s and a 740Ld.

I have never been given anything remotely nice as a courtesy car. In fact, they've always been so bad that I tend to refuse one now. I once swapped the Clio RS for a pastel blue Renault Modus and the Astra for one of those Vauxhalls that look like Postman Pat's square van. An Agila? Can't remember if that was the name, but that sounds like a cool sports car.
I do remember it had no fuel in it and I wasn't about to stop and put some in it. I was going to just leave it where it stopped and walk home if it ran out but, unfortunately, it didn't.

My local Jag dealer is part of a privately owned group that also had a Hyundai dealer and a Volvo dealer in it, so they had mostly those as loan cars plus a few Jags. They used to get loads of complaints, not so much as to the car, but that most of them had manual gearboxes. But once the XE was launched, they mostly changed over to those. I think the Volvo V40 D2 manual they lent me once was probably the most disappointing car I've driven in a long time. Gutless, cheaply finished and having none of that inbuilt quality that I always remember Volvos as having (in the 850 days).
