If anyone is still questioning the value of Tesla it’s interesting that VW have to sell over 6 cars to get the same profit as one Tesla, FCA have to sell 46..

If anyone is still questioning the value of Tesla it’s interesting that VW have to sell over 6 cars to get the same profit as one Tesla, FCA have to sell 46.. Only VERY recently though, Tesla have racked up some spectacular losses until the last 12 months or so. Once there's more demand and competition in the EV segment they'll presumably find their margins being squeezed significantly.

They’ve always been very profitable on a per unit basis. They’ve racked up massive losses due to the massive investments they made. Just not having the massive pension liabilities of the traditional manufacturers has made them very attractive to investors which has driven their stock price.
Edit. Is that too many “massives” ?

Does the Tesla profit include the money they receive from FCA to offset carbon liabilities?

But to make the valuation per share even half reasonable, they are going to have to turn in some very big profit numbers for the next few years. If they manage to do this then the valuations will start to look more reasonable but as Tim said earlier, there are plenty of longstanding manufacturers who will start to get their act together and the market will change with higher volumes and lower profits.
