Sounds great, I suppose the only caveat would be that presently you haven't taken it do the redline (or close) due to the newness of the demo car. Is there likely to be any disappointment (in relative terms) when you can? Hi Tim - I don't think so. If anything, I suspect there will be a better top-end rush between 6000 and 7500 (the limiter is at 7800 I think). In the GT4, there isn''t actually all that much extra power above about 6000, so chasing the red line isn't quite as thrilling as you'd imagine. The new engine is supposed to be much better in that regard and some of this was already apparent on the test-drive. By way of comparison, the M3 absolutely takes off from 6500-8000. It really lunges toward the red line!

How many miles do you have on your M3 now? It seems to be quite the keeper!

Bought the M3 in April 2009, it's done about 82,000 miles. In some years it accrued in excess of 12,000 per annum, in other years, less than 5,000 -and of course it has been sharing the load with at least one other car during the entire time that I've owned it.
Regardless of the Covid-19 situation, I'm now doing far fewer miles than at any time in the last 10 years. My place of work is less than 2 miles from my home!
The M3 will be kept either until it throws me a bill that is economically impossible to justify (as happened with the silver Cayman, that I kept for over 12 years) or until I fall head over heels for a suitable V8-engined replacement.

I did find your Mustang comment a bit...strange. As nice as a Mustang is, it's no M3!

Gentian looks very diferent in the flesh compared to the configurator. It's actually pretty similar to Le Mans Blue I reckon, which is probably why I like it In terms of spec, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, your feedback is noted, and I will make my own decisions!Good! It's what makes us all as individual as we are. I might be just about to buy a Mercedes with cream seats and walnut wood, which I think would probably not be your choice!

The 911 in that picture is Sapphire Blue which is lighter than Gentian blue.

Martin, I had a Cayman T for 24 hours at the beginning of January when the GT4 was in for its 4-year service. I didn't do a full write up. The Cayman T also has the 20mm PASM drop. It's a nice car to drive, the 300 horsepower is fast enough and the turbo engine delivers its power effortlessly. It's nice enough, but not joyful in the way that a 4 litre flat-six with another 100 horsepower is. I enjoyed having a go in it but was glad to hand it back and would not hanker after a four-cylinder replacement as I have been spoiled by what I have. What I really like about the Cayman T spec is the lack of infotainment gubbins and consequent slight drop in weight. Unspoiled as I am by flat six goodness, it would probably be my first choice. Sounds like you have more or less made your mind up about the GTS? Exciting times!

Well the GT4 is going tomorrow and a GTS will be coming along in due course. Deal agreed. Excellent!! Did they give you an idea of the lead-time and did you make any changes to the spec you posted? How do you feel about the GT4 going? Must be a bit more difficult when there's a gap between it going and the new car excitement?

That's still my spec at the moment I think the GT4 will be one of those cars that I've been pleased to own, but probably won't miss all that much when it's gone. I'll take it out for a decent drive this evening on roads that suit it, as a goodbye. I'll take the registration off it tomorrow too. I'll look forward to the GTS arriving and will find out more about the likely timescale tomorrow when I give them my car. It'll probably be October or November. I'm in no particular rush.

Good news. I think you will find the GTS a bit easier to live with on a day to day basis and probably just as fast.

Exciting. One door closes, another opens. Are you going to just use the M3 until the GTS arrives, or do you fancy some bangernomics as a bit of fun?

^^^ the cost to change! Pete - I'll just enjoy the M3 until the new one arrives Can’t be that much? (I’m not asking how much btw). Certainly a small amount compared to if you’d bought something other than a GT4 last time around. The GTS should do pretty well too.

Oh yes absolutely, the GT4 has held onto the vast majority of its value given that it's 55 months old. The GTS in the spec I posted will cost more than the GT4 did, especially as you have to add another £2k in OTR costs onto that price. But no complaints at all.
Compared to the GT4, the GTS will have: About another 15 bhp Better headlights Better Nav A better stereo (BOSE vs Sound Package Plus) Cruise control Parking sensors and a reversing camera Folding mirrors Auto dimming mirrors and rain sensing wipers and a couple of other bits of FG
but it won't have the buckets, and the brakes are smaller.
I've just come back from a 60 mile final drive and I have absolutely no regrets about the decision I've made.

How soon do you think the GT4 will be sold on? Are they shifting stock pretty well at the moment?

55 months? That went quick! Precisely what I thought! Anyway many congrats! Always exciting to order a new car, and doubly so when it's something this tasty! The GTS appeals to me much more than the GT4 - it loses little of the overall performance but is just better-looking and less "in yer face". I shall be most envious!

Me too. When my daughter goes to University I might well trade the M5 for one, or a Boxster.

Well done Dan. No doubt the GTS is the king day to day. Better 98% of the time however I’d still get the GT4 as I’m obsessed with the just come off track look. It’s why the Exige gets me all excited.
I agree with you on gentian blue but where are the satin aurum wheels?
I know it’s weird to make you cayman look like a subaru but I’d be ticking that box.
Let the countdown commence.

Great stuff. I really like the GTS, the GT4 is a bit too shouty with the spoiler for my liking. The Cayman must nail its brief more comprehensively than anything else on the market, surely only Ferrari could compete if they decided to move into that territory?
