It seems a few of us are into this... Here as a starter for 10 is the completed Airfix Sea Fury (in Dutch colours as I liked the orange). Nose hand painted, remainder sprayed with Tamiya cans, and "weathered" with charcoal pencils as models often look too "box fresh"... Edited to add - the 4 pics will presumably upload eventually!!! I'll try them 1 by 1 now... ****ing finally!

Nice work James! Must get my Spit out and get a few 'new' pics taken for the thread.

Brilliant job James.
One thing that surprised me a while ago was how crap white paint was - I was doing a navy Phantom with a white underside and even after 5 coats (Tamiya paint) it was still patchy. A mate told me restrictions on nasty chemicals had screwed things up for white and silver.
Still, the bar's been set pretty high with that Fury.

I have just had a very high performance piston engine overhead, not a Merlin but more growly. No idea what it was as it was gone quite quickly. Darn it.

Very weirdly I see or hear one almost every weekend. I saw them in Winchester often as well - I wonder if the Goodwood based spits come across to Winchester, up to the A34/M4 junction, and on somewhere else, as they are obvious visual markers.
Most Sundays I do a late morning long run along the trails west of Newbury, along the river Lambourne towards where Bake Off is filmed, and for the last 3 weeks before the Sunday just gone (when I went to Greenham Common to run a half marathon PB instead, as my legs are reminding me) I have heard then seen a Spitfire overhead. I feel very lucky, there can't be many hours flown by them at all these days. On one run it did a really languid, low-level roll, on a day when I had previously been reading an account by a pilot that flew them....

I was having a browse on Wonderland Models site and see there's a Sea Fury kit by a company called Trumpeter. Never heard of them, anyone got any feedback?
There was something else I looked at and the kit was made by Kitty Hawk, again never heard of them.
ETA the 2nd kit was the Sepecat Jaguar.

Trumpeter are decent quality for the most part.

Yes, Trumpeter have a pretty good reputation amongst the plastic modeller brigade it seems; a FB friend of mine is a prolific builder, and they're one of his favourite brands to build. (He does a lot of commission work believe it or not; a lot of demand coupled with lack of ability - or time!) Not heard much about Kitty Hawk models though.

Thanks both.
I was surprised that the only Jag kits were by someone I'd never heard of, may just be down to stock but I would've assumed Airfix would have one. Also disappointed to see that there were only 2 Saab Viggen kits, I built a 1:72 scale kit when I was about 10 (it's still fairly intact but at my mums) and would quite like to try another but in 1:48. It'd have to have the Swedish 'splinter' camo scheme though.
Note, I only looked at Wonderland's site so there are undoubtedly more kits out there than I've seen.

I thought Airfix did a Jaguar kit fairly recently. I have a vague recollection of seeing some (in Hobbycraft of all places!) but it might have been one of the several Tonka kits they did I've mixed it up with.
Incidentally, having a flight of these hammering over your head at 100 feet and full power is an experience I still remember vividly some 40 years on! Pant-fillingly fearsome the first time, even knowing they're friendly and on your side really!!
Have you had a look on the Hannants site? I haven't for a while tbh, but they used to do a wide selection of kits from a number of companies. Eduard (tHe photo-etch people) also produce plastic kits which are well thought of.

Airfix certainly used top do a Jaguar kit - I built it as a teenager. All my models are long gone. The three biggest were 1/32nd scale Spitfire and Bf109 (I think Tamiya kits as they were very detailed), plus the Airfix Saturn 5 rocket model. There were also loads of 1/72 scale planes and armoured vehicles etc. Hours of patient work at the time.

I hadn't heard of Hannats but I'll have a look. It might just be that Wonderland don't have any Jaguar kits in. One of my mates has got into kits in a big way and loves the Eduard stuff. He also buys upgrade bits to modify existing kits - things like more detailed cockpits or different canopies for a particular model, etc.

I had loads of kits from when I was younger too but apart from a handful collecting dust at my mums I have no idea where the majority went. Quite a few of the cheap ones were sacrificed, along with toy soldiers, on a mound of earth courtesy of an air rifle.

There are quite a few firms offering upgrade kits, unsurprisingly the majority are in the prc.

Nice although I've decided 1:48 scale is my preferred option. I'm sure East Fortune have a Jag in the Pink Panther scheme from the 1st Gulf War.

Don't recall seeing a Jaguar (of any colour) at East Fortune, though I haven't been in all the hangers I don't think.

I checked and its definitely there - in the military hangar www.nms.ac.uk/national-museum-of-flight/things-to-see-and-do/explore-the-hangars/military-aircraft/I've been there a few times but the most recent couple were slightly disappointing as there is a lot that's no longer on display. I went in 2000 with my Dad and the maintenance hangar was open, most of the things in there aren't visible even now plus the Phantom, Buccaneer as well as some gigantic missile are also not on show. I'm sure there's a lot else I can't remember.

Some of those massive RC aircraft are so well done, they must have kittens when flying them - a crash would be a disaster

Some of those massive RC aircraft are so well done, they must have kittens when flying them - a crash would be a disaster It's happened more often than you may think! That particular B52 crashed twice. The owner rebuilt it (obviously) after the first, but it wasn't totally destroyed as it was on the second occasion. IIRC, there really wasn't a lot of it left by the time the dust settled! There might still be a video of one or both of the crashes in Y'toob if you care to look.
I don't think he ever built anything similar again; he may even have died by now, as it was quite a while ago.

One of the ,ore notorious crashes of a real B-52 was a result of something very similar - too much bank at low level = stall and plane/ground contact to the extreme detriment of everybody on board. I think that's on the Toob too.

Nasty - I had seen that before.
A few weeks ago we were on holiday at Cotswold Water Park (about all we could find after France got cancelled) and on the first day there was an incredible racket, and a B-52 came in to land at RAF Fairford just down the road - it was incredibly smoky, and noisy, and made loads of corrections on the way in to land - very old school! Very impressive beasts to see flying, I can't believe its still in the air and will outlast the B-1B (which is a gorgeous thing).
