I do like my Nespresso machine which I only have a certain amount of. The L'or capsules are as good or better depending on variety. The Starbucks standard variety is OK too but the rest are overpriced.
I don't allow the water to boil for instant.

Over the years I’ve tried an£ tried to like coffee. I’ve tried all sorts, I’ve tried drinking it exclusively for days to try and acquire the taste, but to me it’s still a foul tasting muck. I love the smell of fresh brewing coffee though.

Our bean to cup machine is in the top 3 things we’ve bought for the house. It’s as nice as the best coffee you get can around here, which is on our (small) high street.
I like the idea of the tap, wouldn’t get much use out of it as I never have more than 1 tea a day, but I do l like it.

We use those as well in a now rather ancient Nespresso machine for when we are in a hurry. Otherwise we use one of those classic Bialetti Mokas, usually with Lavazza Crema & Gusto ground coffee. I got a terrible telling-off the other day for forgetting to put water in it before putting it on the hob, whilst still evidently half-asleep. I was simultaneously wondering why the coffee was taking so long to boil and what the increasingly nasty burning smell was, when my wife came rushing downstairs having guessed what had happened. Then a week later she did the same thing. I had to bite my tongue very hard.

I was buying the Illy capsules while they were on special offer in Waitrose but they've gone back up in price now. The best ones I've tried so far.
Back on the L'Or ones now which are always cheap somewhere. If you're happy to buy in bulk it's worth signing up to their webstore as there are frequently discounts to be had, but you usually have to spend £40-50 to get them.

We're very old fashioned. Ground coffee (we buy beans and have a grinder) in a cafetiere. With hot milk done in the microwave. Decaf only or me. Proper stuff for Mrs PG.
I'm the opposite of bob. I used to drink gallons of tea, but now I'm not such a fan. If forced to have it (as I'll choose it over instant coffee), I put sugar in it.

What's wrong with decent instant? 1 spoon of sugar to take away the bitterness, put the milk in first and shove in some boiling water straight from the kettle.
There are a few coffee experts at work who either use the Nespresso type thing (there's too much faffing about with frothy milk) or a cafetiere. The smell is nice but I've never particularly liked the taste.

Coffee is black for me with occasionally some salt. Only the quantity you can get on a dry finger tip but I found it works better than sugar for any bitterness.

I hate coffee and I hate those coffee drinkers who can't do anything before they've had a coffee , those irritants who have to mince everywhere with a stupid cup with their name written on the side getting in my way and the people in Waitrose who draw a long line at the customer service section so they can get their free coffee. Its just a drink, its not as if its a decent Pint. And don't get me started with pubs that are taken over and then re-appear as a Starbucks.

I like coffee but I'm more than happy with instant, albeit reasonably good instant (I avoid those bits of grit that are branded as Nescafe) but for me that makes it difficult to justify paying £3+ for a coffee somewhere like Costa or Starbucks (and don't get me started on paying £2 for a tea bag and some boiling water!). To me it just tastes like nice ish coffee but hardly worth the same as pint! Perhaps I'm just a tight bastard.

That's kind of where I'm at. I love a really nice coffee, but as everyday stuff goes, Gold Blend is fine.

I don’t like coffee so it’s Yorkshire tea and a cheapish morphy Richards kettle for me. Although I have to say Aldi gold label tea bags are as good as if not better than Yorkshire I find
If I’m out and I want a tea I’ll try and go Maccies as it’s a pound a cup

I do like these Nespresso type pieces of coffee kit - I quite fancy one for my kitchen. It's just difficult to justify when all you like is the smell but not the taste. I'm going to give it another go and see if I can become a coffee bore. Rington's tea all the way for me -my man delivers to the door monthly.

If I ever go to Starbucks, etc I always have a hot chocolate. Same here, but by the time you've gone Grande and got the whipped cream and flake in it there are about 2000 calories in the cup!

I sourced a WMF Bean to Cup machine in the office and it was installed two days before lockdown. Ooops. Makes great coffee but I've completely forgotten how to operate it to show the office team (stuff like daily cleaning etc.). Saves a fortune compared to the Nespresso machine that's been used for two years but struggled with a 2x staff increase plus we get PACT coffee which fits the company profile for working in the developing world.

Asda do their own brand pods for the Nespresso machine, three types on the tonsil meter, the 5 and 10 are reasonable tbh and at about £1:40 for ten pods it's good value. Must remember the .

I only buy aluminium ones, as that's what the machines are designed to take. The plastic ones always feel like the mechanism that pierces them is going to break. I've tried several makes and with some there is a big slug of water that comes through before the coffee which isn't good. Means there's air in the pod.

There's a small pub near here that has set itself up as a coffee shop by day and a micro pub by night. Perfect! I love a good coffee and will treat myself to the occasional Starbucks but for sheer quality and value I don't think you can beat a McDonald's coffee. Cheap yet great coffee. At home, I have a filter machine on daily. I don't bother with a pod machine as the waste from them bothers me.

Aren't the aluminium ones an environmental disaster as they can only be recycled by specialists and we don't have many in the UK?

I thought it was the plastic ones with the foil lids?
I remember some council in Germany banning them from their offices because they couldn't be recycled.

Hamburg in Germany did indeed ban the aluminium ones, deeming them a polluting product. The lacquer, plastic and silicone ring aren't recycled. I believe there is only one recycling centre in the UK that can recycle the Nespresso capsules so you have to collect them in a bag and post them or drop them at a specialist collection point - there is a note in small print at the bottom of the ads saying they need specialist recycling.

Don't Maccy D's give the emergency services free coffee or have I made that up? Turning a pub into a Coffee shop is one thing that boils my piss. I hate it as a non coffee drinker when its now ever popular to have meetings in places like Costa or Starbucks. Whats wrong with the boozer round the corner?

Yep: the reasons I changed from a Nespresso machine to a bean to cup machine in the current London office were cost and ecology. When I move on it will be my legacy so I've had my name engraved and gold leafed on a plaque and framed it in the kitchen area.

I have a nespresso machine at home and in the office. I get Aldi espresso pods that I think are about 11p each. I like the idea of bean to cup, but aren’t they faf in terms of cleanup? I also have a cup heater on my desk which is brilliant. It plugs into the mains (rather than a USB port like many seem to do) and it keeps my coffee hot for hours. If someone reviewed my diet I think coffee would be my biggest sin. I start each morning pre run with a triple espresso and have maybe 6 through the course of the day. It doesn’t seem to affect my sleep. I don’t know how much is placebo, but i find it really hard to do a morning run without a big coffee shot.

Our bean to cup self cleans every time, including generating steam to clean the milk container/frother. The grounds container needs emptying and wiping out (quick/easy) and although it has a water filter, it's also a good idea to descale it monthly (Lindsay does that). The manufacturers descaler is £10 but that covers 5 cycles. We had a manual espresso machine and that's a lot more of a faf to use/clean, we use the bean to cup a lot more often as it's so easy and the coffee tastes better.

The office bean to cup machine has a once a day cleaning cycle involving putting some clean water in the milk pipework by connecting it to the water supply of the machine (the milk sits in a refrigerated section) then pressing a button. As a 200+ cup-a-day machine it's a bit more hassle than the bean to cup machine we have at home but not much.
