This is great news for Wearside after some time of uncertainty. Real credit to the workforce.

I saw a bit on the news about it just now. Kudos to the Spaniards in their protesting - burning tyres while being watched by about 1,000 co-workers all of whom failed to show any social distancing It's quite surprise, they must know something about post-Brexit trade agreements or alternatively Sunderland will build all RHD Nissans and Renaults for the UK market?

Yes, I read this a couple of weeks back. Talk of building the Kadjar and the Captur there for Renault as they're built on the same platforms as Cashcow and Juke. I think it was always on the cards as there have been dozens of supply chain partners setting up in the area in the last couple of years and the IAMP site plans to bring further complementary businesses in.
My concerns centre around the fact that Nissan still has excess capacity and the French government loans to Renault and PSA will stipulate saving domestic manufacturing.

That is indeed god news and a great testament to how productive and efficient the Sunderland plant is. At the time, automotive minds said they were mad to open in Sunderland rather than the automotive heartlands in the Midlands. But Nissan decided to start with a clean sheet and with people with no prior knowledge who could learn the Nissan way. My concerns centre around the fact that Nissan still has excess capacity and the French government loans to Renault and PSA will stipulate saving domestic manufacturing. But this does concern me longer term too - the French government I think already said that Renault bale out = no loss of French jobs.

or alternatively Sunderland will build all RHD Nissans and Renaults for the UK market? I am sure this is Renault/Nissan positioning themselves for Brexit. The longer term issue is that in the UK we may not get all the models for different brands, only those produced here whilst European factories will only build LHD cars.

Very good news re Nissan. It throws doubt on one strand of remainers argument about brexit - I was one of those who voted to remain but I’m happy to be proven wrong!
