Tonight, we will be able to see a SpaceX rocket that carries astronauts in the sky.
The rocket will lift-off at around 4.33pm EDT (9.33pm BST), and if it all goes to plan, it means we could see the rocket flying over the UK 15 minutes later, which will be around 9.45-9.50pm.

Must have a gander. I have slightly mixed feelings about it, but private enterprise has definitely given space programmes a shot in the arm that they sorely needed.

What are the reasons for the mixed feelings?

With me its Elon Musk is clearly a bit mad and probably sees himself as Bond Villain like Drax in Moonraker or he'll set up a "LASER" on mars and hold the world to ransom.

With me its Elon Musk is clearly a bit mad... I suspect that is why he has succeeded in getting Space X off the ground. You'd have to be slightly unhinged to keep at it. I genuinely hope they succeed. On a different note, I did think that the photo of the two astronauts in the press today did make them look a bit like two middle aged blokes, carrying a bit too much weight, in fancy dress. They need better designed space wear!

A legitimate concern. In terms of private involvement, if that's what 12th was getting at, I wonder if it really is as private as all that. All the support facilities, the launch sites etc are still NASA and Boeing / McDonald Douglass et al have been involved with space programmes for years. Musk has obviously taken rocket building a stage further and I'm all for that - unless he shaves his head bald then we know we're in trouble.

You beat me to it, I was about to post something similar . From Tim peake Lots of people are asking about timings for tonight's spacecraft sightings. For the UK: International Space Station - 21:20 (look west, right of the moon for the bright light moving towards the overhead). SpaceX - launch 21:33 (watch here: nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public), then about 21:50, it will be following the same path as the ISS, visible over the UK. Amazing if we get to see the spacex vehicle from here

I was expecting something more Star Trek: TNG.

I'm getting a 1950s vibe form the spacesuits.
I think Robbie the Robot is just out of shot somewhere.....

Is Robbie not responsible for the "Polaroid moment"?

Apparently: The Starman suits, as they've been called, are all in one piece and customised for the astronaut. Their look was conceived by Hollywood costume designer Jose Fernandez, who has worked on Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-52787365

So what's the point in making a one piece suit look like a 2 piece?

So what's the point in making a one piece suit look like a 2 piece? I imagine it’s to aid restriction free movement when they reach up or twist round.

Well those Space X guys are going to be up there for a while, plenty of time for us all to buy gorilla suits and learn to ride horses.
