I wonder what a car would look like with a grille as big as its wheels?
The new Alpina:

Hopefully it'll be fast enough that the only view you'll ever see will be the back of it. Having said that the rear end of the X series cars tend to be a bit of a dogs dinner as well. So, hopefully its a car you'll only ever see on a country road at night

Shame. Alpina could have become heros by applying some much needed taste and subtlety to the front end. Sadly they decided to go the other way.

At least they left off the front and side pinstripes.... but Alpina do love chrome for some reason. The wheels are a very good match for the grille vanes. Lovely colour, shame about the grille and the chrome at the front. I’m getting slightly (but not much) less offended by the grille on the X7 / X5 over time and it’s slightly less terrible when it’s not bright chrome. It’s a shame as that would be a fantastic way to shift a large family around.

That’s a pig. Can’t believe alpina bothered, it’s not as if BMW sell a load of X7 . Alpina don’t do an X5 version do they?

The X7 is an unsaveable piece of shit.
Alas in the current car market Alpina has to cater for clients that want revolting 4x4s that stand apart from the crowd. Hopefully they will ALL go to China and the Middle East so we’ll not have to set our eyes on such a monstrosity on our roads.

Looks like The Predator, and will doubtless be driven accordingly.

Take a tall, jacked up car and lower the suspension. Makes sense.
Kill it with fire.

I'm waiting on the first SUV to come on Cup 2 or Trofeo R tyres for the full nonsense spec.

It's funny that as BMW are gradually slimming down their headlights they're gradually increasing the size of the grille between them so it looks less cohesive each time.
As long as they don't mess with the badge they'll be fine though

I remembered that but its fundamentally the same (despite probably costing £000s of thousands to arrive at).
I meant more that they shouldn't change the shape or font or colours, and why would they when its so identifiable.

As long as they don't mess with the badge they'll be fine though It's the conundrum that designers can't seem to deal with. Headlights are getting smaller. So what on earth do they fill the previously used space with? Oh yes, a huge snozzle. That'll look great and really coherent won't it.

That's the long wheelbase version, there isn't much space behind the 3rd row in the standard car despite it being over 5.3m long (the L is over 5.6m). Plenty of space behind the second row through on the standard car. I know a bit about them, as it is what I was expecting to get on holiday this year, but the chances of that holiday happening now are very slim indeed.

I wrongly thought there would be plenty of space behind the third row, but as all the rental models have the 2 x captains chairs in the middle, we’d need to have one person in the very back and fold the other seat down. Loads of room if you don’t need the 3rd row

I'd have been stepping on to a Jumbo this morning for Florida if it hadn't been cancelled! With that thought I will go and console myself with a coffee.

Golf courses open the 29th though! They do. We have two courses which always meant booking a tee time wasn't necessary. In fact the pro wasn't interested in taking a tee time. From Monday at 9am the tee booking system opens and I can see carnage especially for some of the older members who don't have a PC/smart phone. I will be there finger poised at 8.59.
