When you blank out the false trim on the rear quarter window I think it looks pretty good if not very long. I just wonder what demand there will be for this unless it is priced considerably below a 340i touring.

I assume the blanked off trim is just a disguise. That aside, I like it.

That's going to need massive wheels to not look shit.

I expect it makes more sense than a standard Arteon. They are surprisingly big cars - at 4.86m long, an Arteon is fully 22cms longer than my 4GC.
It's also 5cms wider and 5cms taller.

Horrible. And why's it called a shooting brake? It's just an estate car.

In a vain attempt to make the insecure think it's posher than it is?

They’re not the first, shooting brake is one of the worst, but I still refer to Avant/Touring/Sportswagon/Wagon etc are all estates to me. That’s what I always referred to my 5 as.

Unlike those though, Shooting Brake has a whiff of old money respectability about it. Or at least that's what I think VW is thinking.

Is it VW's label or Pistonhead's, though?

I definitely don't refer to mine as the "gran coupe"...

Seems to have an excessively drooping nose, like the latest Golf, and the rear slopes badly too, affecting practicality. No thanks

It isn’t designed for outright practicality, there the Passat wagon for that.

Usual inanity in the PH comments, I see. They talk about fast estates not being that rare and completely omit the brand most famous of all for making them. I did like the one with Hitler's Moustache Wax, though.

It looks alright, kind of like a Scirocco Estate with that window line. However a Shooting Brake is a 3dr not a 5dr, a 5dr is an estate.
As an aside, I can't think the last time I saw an Arteon on the road.

Big fan of that estate, and I’d take one over any hot suv , But I can’t imagine it’ll be cheap

You've probably all seen a lot more of them but after a quick glance not looked again and assumed it was an Audi A5.

A good friend of mine had one of these, except in the really BRIGHT yellow of the era. It looked like a rather large banana blancmange!!

There was also an Allegro 3-door estate, but I don't think I can ever recall anyone referring to it as a shooting brake

The original shooting brakes were, unsurprisingly, designed to carry people to a shoot on a country estate, but then were adopted as a utilitarian alternative to the main car for when His Lordship was 'in the country'. Often built on a quality chassis, such as Rolls-Royce, the true originals tended to have a two door body style with a crew bus configuration in the back (sideways facing bench seats), with the later country estate car for use on the country estate being a five door configuration.
