Still love the basic shape, but that's a bit caricatured for me. I know a guy who's got the Quaggfoggy and whilst I really like it, the engine note stops me from loving it. It sounds a bit crap, especially for an Alfa.

It sounds a bit crap, especially for an Alfa. I’ve been in the Stelvio version and you need to put it in the most aggressive mode to get the full exhaust sound. But that means the ESP and TC is fully off, which I wouldn’t fancy in the Giulia. It still didn’t sound as good as I expected, but better than it does in the standard mode. I don’t like the GTA at all, the standard car is much nicer.

From early 2019 the Guilia and Stelvio got a software update so you can have the full exhaust in the other settings too. The Stelvio QF I was in at Silverstone last year had the update

The rear boots on the GTA look absolutely massive - a dry road car I think!

100kg reduction. Is that based on the rear seat removal reducing passenger capacity? I don’t really see the point of this. For what it will cost you could buy an actual bespoke drivers car. Alfa are doing what MG Rover did when they were in financial dire straights, pissing money up the wall on cars nobody will buy.

I miss the days when an exhaust only had one setting.

I miss the days when an exhaust only had one setting. I don’t. I like it being nice and quiet on the motorway / at constant speed and more interesting when you want it to be. Depends on the engine though, I’m happy to leave that particular setting in Eco mode on the Golf, but that’s to stop the 5 pot fakery. Still good to have the choice. I don’t get the dislike for configurable options, they make complete sense to me.

Only the Italians in 2020 would release a picture of a new car with fire coming out of the tail pipes. About as politically correct as a burning oil refinery, and for that one can't fault them. Send a photo to Greta!

Been watching vids to see what it sounds like but no joy. In one video they get Kimi Raikkonen to wax lyrical about it. It truly is him at his most enthusiastic. Not!

I don’t get the dislike for configurable options, they make complete sense to me. It was more along the lines of how 'natural' the exhaust sound actually is. In these days of parpshift and synthetically created exhaust notes, I actually wonder how many cars have a natural exhaust noise. It used to be a dark art to make an exhaust tuneful using certain bends and resonators, now it's just a flap and some speakers.

Mine has flaps, but no fakery or artificial pops/bangs thankfully, so sounds very natural to me. Whilst we’re on the subject, I don’t get the ‘rattle’ sound so many cars make when they’re revved either, sounds like something is loose....

I liked the occasional pop and bang the 370Z did on high rev downshifts but it wasn't particularly consistent so I was happy that it wasn't manufactured in.
The sound I dislike is the stupid fart on upshifts that too many of the superheated 4 pots do now.

Ooh - I need new underwear...
Doubtless this will sell for about the amount of money I'll be getting from the sale of my old house soon (I get to keep all of 15% of the proceeds)... Who needs a rainy day fund eh???

For £100k that's going to be facing some pretty tough opposition for people's money. Or get the Quadrifoglio and save yourself at least £30k.

Unregistered ones are on Autotrader from £56k, so so the full fat GTA will be nearly double the cost. Didn’t realise they had a 5 year warranty and breakdown cover....handy.

Alfa, with their great ability to shoot themselves in foot, have made the extended 5 year warranty so complicated hardly any car qualifies. The car has to be new retail and factory order to qualify therefore hardly any used ones actually have the balance of 5 years only 3. No Lease, ex demo, pre reg or cars being on a special offer qualify. Also the dealer needs to make sure they have applied for the additional warranty if the car did ever qualify, which given Alfas awesome dealer network, most of them didn't bother. Who in their wisdom at Fiat UK thought that a great idea I dont know but no way would the Germans make such a hash of this stuff, let alone the Japanese and Korean manufactures. As for the GTA, I wasn't sure initially as looked a little too tarty but I'm now loving it.

Ah, it's rather more £ than I expected then! I'm still not up to speed with the inflation of new car prices... Sounds like my share of the house money wouldn't buy a normal QF. I am careful to ignore the price bit of car reviews The warranty sounds familiar. I bought my 156GTA new from an alfa specialist not a main dealer, but it was a UK model that had undergone PDI here. When it came to the third year of the warranty they would not honour it and claimed it was an "import", then claimed it was only valid for the original owner (it had been pre-registered to Fiat UK before I bought it). It seemed to me from digging that the dealer I was using for servicing had forgotten to do it - when I moved to a different one they registered it and honoured it. The usual Italian balls-up...

Lovely as it may be I wouldn't want to part with 150k for one but there are lot of super rich Alfisti out there who may well be tempted. Its not as if the Project 8 has been a run away success however.

Its not as if the Project 8 has been a run away success however. Pretty much my first thought - that price is Project 8 territory and that's hardly been a sell out. Although perhaps they are different audiences. Well moneyed Alfisti may well want that GTA. But well monied Jag-heads want a re-engineered E-Type or other re-engineered / restored classic.

Having seen the car before and now the Harris review, all I can say is "Want one". That Alfa sings my kind of song.
